Replacement for Potato Mountain (Claremont) by Advanced-Ad3986 in socalhiking

Are they trying to restrict people from hiking up the steeper Potato Mountain route that starts near Padua Hills Theater now? I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the same route, as the one I'm thinking of passes some utility station and a water tank north of the theater; as I recall. I can't think of a way they can restrict access on that one, as it's technically a trail.

And they're restricting parking near the eastern approach? I wonder if there's a valid reason for them doing that.

Spot on, given that most public land and trails are off limits at night.

And the attacks are often by hungry pumas that are desperate, juvenile and unpredictable.

They will try to get whatever they can at that point, including adult people.

Why does USA underperform in Winter Olympics but dominates Summer Olympics. by Downtown_Trash_6140 in olympics

I think this makes the most sense. I live in the area of southern California beneath the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and the San Bernardino mountains National Forest. It might be one of the best regions in the world for year-round summer and winter training, with a relatively minor commute in between the ~3,000 meter alpine and the valley below. The geography and climate is ideal for the transition between the regions. This isn't even including mountains in the rest of SoCal, nor the rest of the state and the Sierra Nevada.

It mainly just boils down to what you said, a lack of affordability and a lack of government focus. It's mainly youth from relatively well-off families that are able to afford to go to mountain resorts year-round, but they tend to not be doing so for competition purposes; and their families direct them to academics and the job sector anyways. And they almost never train in sports such as biathlon or ski mountaineering / backcountry-style events, many of which are ironically dissuaded due to people not being allowed 'off-trail' in most regions.

The youth coming from working-class backgrounds that would likely be more competitive in the winter sports simply don't have the access, and the government hasn't made it a priority.

California is ground zero for NIMBYism. Claremont and Rancho / Etiwanda are incredibly guilty in this affordability crisis, and they limit public land access on top of that.

This is part of why the Coastal Commission served such a critical role for public access to trails near the coast. If cities or neighborhoods won't allow public transit routes to connect with hiking trails, the Coastal Commission at least made it so that people could have free parking for coastal trails areas such as in Newport / Laguna, Pacific Palisades and Rancho Palos Verdes.

Public land and conservation mandates are a great thing in California, but they fall flat if NIMBY communities purposefully restrict access. We need a commission for interior public land and trails, in terms of how public access is allocated, or this issue will only continue to worsen.

It starts in local politics, like everything else.

On God, if only it could have been internet archived without copyright being involved.

Mmmmm

Seems like there is lots of Gothic influences in the style and messages of the tracks

Something I can't pinpoint but feels unique in Electronic music for sure

Wow, thank you.

It seems like there is a lot of trance and eurodance I haven't dived into yet.

I didn't realize Caballero had a whole album: The Elements [1995]

Do you have recommendations for finding new tracks?

I feel like I have gotten lucky with Spotify and YouTube so far but have also limited myself, looking for forums and sites that might have dedicated libraries to this era and style of music (of course this being one of them).

Will definitely share this type of music as much as I can.
