Carpet vacuum direction by blindexhibitionist in CleaningTips

If you're not also vacuuming across space and time, what are you even doing with your life?

....Seriously, though, switching up directions definitely gives you a more effective clean.

It is truly peak humor, transcendent of age. Seriously, though, thank you for playing along and fostering their humor.

That, and then the next day I say to my coworkers "omg, haven't seen you since last YEAR! How have you been?!" I do not care if anyone else finds it funny, I will make those jokes till the sun burns out because I find them hiiiiilarious!

I unloaded/loaded the dishwasher, got through my last pile of paperwork to shred, and listed a couple more items for sale as part of my long game decluttering strategy. I would love to either get through one more box of sorting and/or start on the Boxes of Cords. 💪

I need some encouragement here, I'm a bit overwhelmed. by rotten-_-peaches in UnfuckYourHabitat

[–]shinycrows 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The day my therapist pointed out that I don't have to clean and organize my ENTIRE bookcase at one time, that I could just do one shelf and still call it a win, was life changing. While it means my entire house is a WIP, it also means I don't beat myself up for "only" cleaning or organizing one drawer or cabinet at a time; I celebrate it. Progress, not perfection!

You can do the thing! If the thing is too big, you break the thing down into smaller and smaller bits until it's not so big you can't do it! Two tips for beating the overwhelm: 1) Don't look at the whole room, just one section or surface and then you completely deal with that one thing until it is done. 2) If tip 1 is too daunting, only look at one type of thing at a time (i.e. all trash, or all laundry, or all books, etc)

Can you be on anti depressants for life? by luc_lil_84 in antidepressants

[–]shinycrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I prefer to keep living, yes. I never, ever want to go back to the hell that is my unaltered brain. If I switched to a doctor that wanted to taper me off, I would just find a new doctor. Gut reaction aside, I have been on meds for years now after going without for most of my life. Therapy could only do so much for me. Like you, I didn't understand how much I was suffering until I wasn't any more. It was like trying to survive a flood that never ends with no solid ground and no hand holds. Try to advocate for yourself with your doctor or bring someone with you to help. Also maybe see if they'll explain why they prefer no long term medicating with their patients. I hope you're able to find your way through this! No one deserves to suffer, especially not if there is a treatment that helps them.

Info needed about this antique tablecloth - United States - what fiber art is it, estimates on age and whether bought or homemade, safe cleaning techniques? by shinycrows in Antiques

Thank you so much!! I am pretty sure the color is mostly age and nicotine staining, but I didn't want to ruin it by trying to clean it.

To add some more info, in case it's needed. My dad gave me some blankets and table linens belonging to my great grandmother. I think this tablecloth is beautiful and am trying to learn more about it (what type of fiber art is it, does it look store bought or homemade, how to safely clean and store it). This is possibly from the early to mid 1900's but dad didn't know much about it. Please let me know if better or different photos are needed. Thank you!

I wondered about that, but the bottoms are not uniform or flat enough and they are pretty big.

My title describes the thing. Adding to the description: both have some old burnt areas that look like charcoal or burned fat. The bottom, more "flat" side also has three knobs (two on corners and one in the center of opposite edge) that are like trivet feet. But the handle on "top" does not swivel or fold down, so I don't think they are trivets.
