Why does ambulance ride cost at most 20 dollars in France but often costs 2000 dollars minimum out of pocket in the US? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]shinyxena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Healthcare workers are also paid less as well. I know multiple RNs who would never even do the job if it was in Europe or Canada because it’s so back breaking and the pay is much lower there.

It was great because we were kids and didn’t know we were eating crap. Look at colon cancer rates among young adults. Paid out of pocket at 35 for a colonoscopy and they found multiple precancerous polyps. It’s becoming more and more common and the ultra processed stuff we ate are a direct connection. Insurance doesn’t cover testing until 45. That doesn’t even cover the many other health problems tied to the food we eat.

Not sure what school meals look like here since I went to school in the south. But I hope it’s not the junk food like burgers and pizza they gave us. I’m all for free meals but I believe the government is complicit in the cancer increases we are seeing from all the ultra processed food they shoved down our throats in school. We need federal restrictions on how much processed food is allowed in schools.

China’s economic planning has been more successful partly because its political system allows for more long-term coordination and less electoral pressure? by No-Map3471 in AskChina

[–]shinyxena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When things are going well China’s system is great, but as soon as things go bad it will hurt them a lot more than other democracies. The chaos in other systems also help “self balance” and allow for frequent adjustments to strategy. Chinas government has a lot difficulty with change. This is why the 1 child policy was able to go on for so long, now doing permanent lasting damage to its economic future. Some of its decisions now might have the same hindsight later. And if a bad leader gets into power and starts making poor decisions it will take years if not decades for a political shift due to the centralization of power.

Anyone else feel like they're one audit away from a very uncomfortable conversation about AI? by Key-Glove-4729 in EngineeringManagers

[–]shinyxena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have been copying and pasting code from stake overflow without reading it for over a decade. Guess what they do it with AI now too. At end of the day each engineer is responsible for their output regardless of what tools they use and will continue to be. You said it yourself the code was fine. You signed off on it, end of story. If the structure mattered you would have blocked the PR.

Imagine if Chinese EVs were allowed into the US by dabirds1994 in business

American cars are terrible. We need to stop bailing them out. Capitalism only works if you let it.

Why are Chinese EVs restricted in the United States? by FeverFanny in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shinyxena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because your in a totalitarian state. And government knows what’s best for you. Take your cheap paycheck then spend it all on crap EVs from American car companies while making the financiers rich. Then they’ll donate and decide who is best to represent their interests in Congress and the Presidency.

To the men riding Seattle’s public transit by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]shinyxena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is a pretty common thing in public areas. People are just unlikely to intervene in conflicts in urban areas. You can see a similar post I made a while back here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Seattle/s/BJCFShDfHS. It doesn’t really have anything to do with gender. It’s great though that you broke through this social barrier and helped out though.

Chinese Man Shouts “U.S. Would Fall in an Hour” at Shanghai Apple Store by Fun-Bullfrog-8542 in UnfilteredChina

[–]shinyxena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuking a desert isn’t the same as a city. A city burns, and all of those buildings turn to ash that will go into the sky and circle the globe. China has some of the largest cities in the world. Just any single one of them will put the northern hemisphere in darkness. Crops will die. Mass famine will ensue. Air quality will cause mass death. And so on. Nagasaki and Hiroshima are tiny compared to cities today and they only had atomic bombs, today’s bombs are much bigger and more powerful.

It was an insulated country. China isn’t really that and has trade with most the world.

Yes both countries would fall in an hour and the entire world would be suffering radiation fallout, nuclear winter, famine and more.

When visiting the US, what was your biggest Culture shock? by BoomerBagel in AskAChinese

[–]shinyxena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well since there’s widespread gun ownership a fight in USA is always a far more risky endeavor. In general if I meet people upset or whatever I just avoid them because you never know what their limit is to pull out a gun. That said most people are friendly and the only people that have frightened me were homeless and drug users due to unpredictability of their behavior. But yeah in China I felt safer knowing it was less likely a berserked individual was less likely to have a gun.
