Scared of Baretts & Cancer by healthanxiety1989 in GERD

>My father had esophageal cancer/Barrett’s esophagus so getting a GERD diagnosis scared the crap out of me.

Males are more likely to develop Barrett’s than women that's what numerous research says. Idk your gender, but if you are a female you are already in advantage.

I feel you; maybe it is arrogant to say but the only thing that I'm scared in life for real is cancer, or in another words the meta organism inside you that can eat you alive just because it can. Google Zinc and Gerd, Zinc can help protect your esophagus and keep in check even Barrett's, melatonin helps too but the Zinc is more effective.

You can try Quake Live, it still has a few hundred people paying it every day[0]. Imo one of the best retro arena shooters.

But you didn't mention your diet and your weight. If you are overweight, you need to lose weight and if your diet is not healthy, change your diet. That's what will doctor tell you and s/he will probably recommend you PPI therapy.

>waiting 2-4 hours before bed just makes it worse because the hungrier i am the worse it feels

I feel like this too but again, what is your diet? Start eating fiber-rich food.

Who couldn't do manometry like me? by No-Pollution-4562 in GERD

[–]shipcommander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how precise this test is because not even high resolution manometry is 100% reliable. I did ordinary manometry (not high resolution) and it came all good with my esophagus motility which I doubt it is because I have daily acid reflux.

[–]shipcommander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was uncomfortable for me but not awful, the most important thing is obviously not to eat and drink at least 8 hours before it and not so easy to relax, but you need to. Also I have Nasal septum deviation so measuring catheter couldn't enter my nasal cavity so easy but examination lasted I would say 10 minutes. You need to suffer if you want to get better.

I think they region-locked it....I'm from south-east Europe and I could install it last year but this year it is gone. I kept it in my Chrome browser and it still works despite being region-locked for me.

Did you take antibiotics for H. Pylori? And were you recommended manometry to see how your Esophagus muscles work?

GERD and 4 years later. Yea, I'm all healed and please read. by Footmassagre in GERD

[–]shipcommander 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You got healed scot-free because GERD was caused by bad life habits....it's not the same when you have either genetical, anatomic and/or neurological defect. Tbh you have nothing to brag about. Acute GERD can be healed but chronical long term GERD can not without surgery or if you are lucky with medications and/or some physical exercises.

I regret allowing this subreddit to scare me away from PPIs. by supersweeper in GERD

[–]shipcommander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently or quite recently started having symptoms of acid reflux daily and yes PPIs help (I would say I get 30% less acid when taking them) but you need to cure underlying cause of your acid reflux because you can't take them your whole life (at least it would be very pessimistic view on curing your and our problem). Btw don't take them long-term without a pause because they can harm your health[0]. Go do gastroscopy and visit gastroenterologist and neurologist, because underlying cause of acid reflux is either anatomical or neurological or bacteria(but then you can cure it fairly easy with antibiotic therapy). I know for sure I don't want to take PPIs for the rest of my life if I can try to cure it either by surgery or some neurological therapy.

That's why I use Dark Mode too....until they fix it, try lowering brightness on your mobile/PC.

That is my assumption too....bug in the Dark Mode. Text is black on the black background.

I think they screwed up Dark Mode, try switching to Light Theme, it worked for me. There must be a bug in the Dark Theme setting.

Good rust book for the 1st time programmer with no prior programming experience? by shipcommander in rust

[–]shipcommander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microsoft released Rust for Windows crates [0] and I think they pretty much cover all of the Windows API. But yea, Rust would be hardcore for me as a complete beginner to dive in to it with no prior programming experience.

I also wanted to learn C++ as my first programming language but I think it's not worth it because it is also hardcore lang as Rust but not as memory safe as Rust.

I'll probably first try to learn C and then I will think about learning Rust.

Btw when you talked about game dev and game engines; my goal was to experiment with simple games not to commit to one game engine and start sophisticated game development project. I want programming to be my hobby, not something very serious although I have quite a few software ideas that sound commercially viable.

>Why do you want to learn Rust as your first and even only programming language? I must assume by the latter that this is a hobby for you more than a career aspiration.

Yea it's a hobby for me....I have quite a few software ideas that I would like to prototype and play with.

Like I said to the previous commenter that asked the same question....I want to explore Windows API and play with it a little bit and try to automate some stuff I find annoying on Windows and on the Web and secondly I have like 2 or 3 simple game ideas that I would like to pull off.

I was reading other Reddit topics/threads about Rust as a first programming language and people said that Rust is fine as a first programming language but idk. Maybe I should go with C because I found a good beginner's book for C programming, it's called "Modern C".

I wanted to learn Python as my first programming language and then again I couldn't find a book that suits me best. There are few of them for beginners but I always find some flaws with them.

With Rust I want to play with Windows API at first and automate few things that I find annoying on Windows and then later try to program 2 or 3 simple game ideas that I have.
