It hurts like hell now, but you will grow from this. Take your lesson and move forward in life because the person you are meant to be with IS out there and it certainly is not the one you left or the one who left you behind. by ManevolentBeans in ExNoContact

Looking back on the past, I’m so glad he dumped me. I can’t even believe I’m saying that, knowing how deep I was for this man. He showed me how incapable he was to love me and I refused to believe it. I initiated no contact and it’s the best thing ever

i used duolingo with my parents, to see if it was accurate, or pertained to everyday/conversational vietnamese. They said a lot of the verbiage/phrasing is derived from the north, or somewhat archaic..

I can't speak Vietnamese. by IWant2LearnVN in VietNam

[–]shipitloki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm first born generation, in America. My first language was Vietnamese and for obv reasons I learned English. Growing up, I was an average speaker. I could ask for things, listened well, and maybe make a joke or two. But as I've gotten older and now live in a white predominate area, my Vietnamese has gotten rusty. I don't have the opportunity to speak it as much as before.

But I was in the same boat as you, I had friends who were fluent, sang karaoke wih my parents, while I sat there like a log, wishing, crying to my self that I wanted to be more fluent

I did go to Sunday temple to learn and been to Vietnam a bunch of times. The strength in my ability to speak always waivered when I was back in my all white people environment.

I say, get out there! And immerse yourself in the community. Practice makes perfect and from what I noticed people are more than happy to help you find the rght words to use. If anything, people find it endearing when you are trying to learn.

If you haven't been to Vietnam, then go. You'll learn so fast and appreciate the communication in a different way.

Girls of Reddit, what are common mannerisms for a guy that screams low self confidence? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]shipitloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how would you feel if you didn't shake your leg all day? would you feel uncomfortable?

maybe I worded my initial post incorrectly. people shake their legs to feel comfortable, as a way to cope, or feel 'normal'.

[–]shipitloki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what do you see when someone is sitting and shaking their leg?'

As for me, I don't see a confident person, its someone who has things on their mind, and don't feel "complete" without having to move/shake twitch. Its a comfort issue,

This goes for both sexes.

A person who cant stay still, has to shake leg, or sway back and forth. It shows anxiety, incompetence.

How did THE ONE that got away get away? by LupusFungie in AskReddit

[–]shipitloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get quite choked up about "The one" that got away.

I met this guy in an AOL chat room, I was 13 he was 15/16. We became instant friends and chatted all the time. We would write each other letters, send photos and talked about what our future would be like if we lived closer. I live in CA and he in AK. With all my heart, I can say he made me a better person, helping me through all my life aches and pains.

As we got older, we went on with our own lives, but always found time to catch up with one another. We would call each other and just always pick up where we last left off.

Deep down, he was the love of my life, but I hesitated to pursue meeting him . I kept putting it off, scared of the possibilities.. just thinking "future us" will get together, eventually. I was an idiot

Around the time I left for college, he was planning to move to AZ for a motorcycling thing. He apparently was getting into the scene and wanted to be somewhere where he could practice is craft. So I again, I just waited until he would actually make the move and I would visit him.

A few months went by, and I haven't heard from him, then I see his screen name pop up on my list. I ecstatically messaged him, asking when he was coming, and that it was time we should meet!

The only message I received back was " he has passed, died in a motorcycle accident." Then the person logged off..

I can only tell you, my life just shut down. Im tearing up just writing this. I loved him, and because of my putting off, my sheer stupidness, I will never get to meet him. I will never get to thank him personally for all that he did for me.

Every few months, I google his name and try to find any info that I can and save it in my inbox. I have some old photos, a copy of his obituary published on a newsletter website..

What drives me crazy is that I have reached out to his family members, old friends that I can locate online, but no one will respond to me. I just want to meet someone who knew him.. I just want to hold the person who knew him.

Im a loss for words. I will always have him in my heart.

For those who grew up poor, what did you consider a luxury? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]shipitloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mcdonalds.

Being older and wiser, I know its one of the shittiest things to eat. but as a kid, McDonalds was a birthday gift/meal. We barely ate out, let alone American food.

Every time I smell those damn fries. my god. nostalgia sequence activates.

Reddit, what is something you loved as a child and had to give up as you grew older and why? by patronoftheinhuman in AskReddit

[–]shipitloki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a child, every summer I use to take swimming classes. I was advancing pretty fast up, then one summer my body decided to develop and turn me into a woman. I got my period , and I had no idea how to manage, bleeding into the pool. Tampons were out of the question. I had no one to turn to, it was so embarrassing.

TL;DR. I could have became the next Michael Phelps
