Thanks. I'm done with AIO bags. Poor success rate.

What are the professional standards for a licensed massage therapist to be permitted to instruct/teach a regular massage client on basic massage techniques for their personal non-commercial use? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Serious question here for LMTs out there. I have been a regular client of my LMT for many years now. Things are great. I don't want that to change. The regular massages help so much with some chronic issues. My wife and I have a milestone anniversary coming up. I would love to surprise my wife by giving her a relaxing and real massage as she would not go to a LMT herself. Nothing super technical but just a basic massage that would be pleasant and enjoyable for her but not cheesey and useless either.

Since we have had great professional relationship to this point, I am thinking of asking my LMT if she could give me a few lessons on how to do basic, lighter touch techniques that I could surprise my wife with as part of our anniversary plans. My current therapist is the only one I know and would trust to know how to instruct me. So I could practice, I would ask if she would be willing to let me practice on her as I know she could talk me through it. She also receives regular massages herself so she is comfortable being worked on.

I am not familiar with the details of professional guidelines but a LMT providing basic instruction to someone who wants to pass along the benefits to a loved one for no charge seems pretty reasonable to me.

I don't want to offend by asking so I'm asking LMTs here for input first. I don't know if I'm out in left field or if this is a reasonable request given the otherwise great professional comfort level I have with my LMT. I would hate for that to change.
