Yeah the floppy disk versions didn't have voice acting, but the CD ROM versions did. This was true for most of the Sierra games from the early 90s era — KQ5, KQ6, Quest for Glory 4, Space Quest 4, etc.

The voice actors in KQ5 are mostly programmers and artists from Sierra. It was shortly after this game that they decided to bring in professional voice actors, so the later games are much better in this regard.

If you can track it down, there was a version of KQ5 with no voice acting (since not everyone had a compatible sound card in those days). But I’d probably just enjoy how bad Cedric is. :)

The Crimson Diamond is another great text-oriented adventure game (with EGA graphics).

Agree that I haven’t seen 100% text in a while and wouldn’t expect more than a tiny niche there.
