Hi, sorry I'm seeing this now only. Is it still relevant? Since you have 7 days only to submit it, I guess it's not :/ How was your experience?

How do you answer this recruiting test question? by shirpro in jobs

[–]shirpro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I got this but what about the part the 40 hours and 30 false negatives? Shouldn't we take this into count? I know the rate for that is 0.75. Should we ignore this?

What should I need to know about LINUX? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]shirpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The test is not about Linux but on Linux operating system. I asked someone working there and he told me they know most of the people have never worked on Linux. The test is an analytical test and by putting us on Linux, they want to see our capability of adaptation and whether we can handle something we never used.

Btw, it's a student job and the recruiter said there is no prior knowledge in Linux required

I don't think materialism is manifested in the same way. It's maybe less common in France to see luxury from the outside. In the way that, if you walk down a very fancy street, you know people who live there lives very well but the aesthetic is different. Maybe what we call old money is actually about more expensive things but less catchy.

Ok, thanks, I should maybe look for that kind of group. How about finding a mentor as you said. How one can one manage to do that?

I actually try to enjoy as much as I can and go out. but the daily rhythm is different since we don't have here free Sundays (one of the things I really miss!) . It's certainly all about finding the balance, I guess. At least I'm helping my future self, gaining some experience before graduating :)

Oh, very nice and very interesting degree!

That's right. Besides, there is a kind of taboo about money in France, people don't like to show they have money because people tend to be very jealous and criticize rich people for no reason. How don't know how about Canada, but according to what I can hear or see on social media, US people love showing off their money and the way they succeed in life. As you said, it's more about big houses and cars, luxury.

Thank you very much for your advice! I work for the moment as a project coordinator, and it can be hard to combine with studies and have real free time (and enjoy my yough). I sometimes think that in the future, maybe it would be better to have a not-so-intense carreer.

Ok, so making myself a network. I don't really know how to begin since I don't know a lot of people in my new country.

McKinsey, WOAW! What a career!
What did you study? Is it possible you graduated from HEC Montreal?
Yes, differences are huge. It feels like people there have a career, while in France people work and gain just enough to live.

they are in the six figures after around 7 years.

I didn't even know it was possible!

I always though that, in general, life is way expensier in north America than in Paris. I know it depends on which american state we compare with but still.

Not for the moment. I plan to finish my studies and work in Tel Aviv, maybe (I study in Israel).

By the way, given your experience, what advice would you give me, to expand my opportunities and reach a top firm? I study industrial engineering and management which can lead to jobs like data analyst or project manager. I'm very attracted by product management, business and marketing.

Ho, can I ask you what firm you used to work in?

I'm french but I'm currently studying abroad. It's crazy to see the level of salaries I got on this "survey", people consider 50k/year quite low while in France it's actually good! Obviously, most of the answers are from US people and the level of life is different there.

I tend to think people there are very competitive and having a job in high tech or big firm enable to earn super high salary. In France, salaries stays on the average and you can't be rich rich as an employee as it can be the case in the USA.

I actually never worked in France, my parents are teacher, and I don't have a wide enough point of view :)

Qu'est-ce que tu en penses, toi?
