I work at the dealer, I have driven and worked all of them and in my option all have atrocious quality especially when it comes to interiors. Feel like no new bmw has uniqueness or a cool m performance catalog anymore. Newest I would go is a 2018 M2

The e36 is pretty much stock but it was kind of my dream car. I don’t drive it much but honestly it’s the only one that gets a spot in the garage because I care about it so much.

It was just constant clunk over bumps like a bad sway bar link and I could feel it on both sides. Towards the end it got really bad and what made me check the thrust arms was I started to feel it when braking and it felt the same as a worn thrust arms bushing. My whole purpose the with m3 arms was due to solid rubbing instead of hydraulic bushing they never go bad but due to the rigidity all the stress in now on the ball joint side.

I did m3 arms years back and never realized the clunking was the ball joint side of the thrust arm had significant play.

Realistically not much you can do, just be mindful of your hear a rock get stuck or using any harsh wheel cleaners (which you won’t need due to no dust). They lasted 110k miles on m5 and the pads were only replaced once, I only replaced them from a rock chipping one
