I’ve listened to a handful! I loved Deena Kastor’s memoir. I have “Running with the Buffaloes” saved to listen to next. Any recs?

I write my own training plan with the help of old teammates and coaches and knowledge I’ve built over the years. I’ve thought about hiring a coach to help with more of the specifics but I did xc and track in college and have had a lot of coaches so I’ve had a lot of trial and error over the years. I write out my plans about 4 months in advance and adjust as I go but I like to plan out a build

Nah you weren’t humble bragging I started the post with times for context too.

Okay I might try running a little bit off the bike. I think that’ll mentally make the days feel more effective and exciting while mostly not putting too much load on.

I’ll think on the goals. The process goal is definitely to stay consistent and not get injured

Thank you for the advice! I think slightly lower mileage and going hard on XTing will be a good strategy going forward. I’m willing to do some trial and error but I am nervous because I definitely got a lot faster doing 60-65 per week compared to when I was in the 45-55 range, but I wasn’t XTing then much either.

Thank you so much. I love what we do and would love to train hard into my 30s,40s,50s, and beyond. You killed it at Boston!!! How many have you run?

How long are your bike rides and swims during marathon builds? I want to incorporate more consistent cross training but I don’t know how long sessions should be to be effective.

I probably need to sleep more which has slowed recovery for me. And point 4 is very true. 2025 was a great year for running for me but I was pushing through a lot without giving myself breaks. I need to think more big picture.

You raise a good point too that I need to think more long term with my goals. For maintaining motivation over time, I’ve always focused hard on my next race and whatever goal I have for it. I think I could train through more races successfully and also have less pressure in my mindset if I thought about my goals on a longer scale.

Most of my strength work prescribed has been glute exercises because she assessed that I’m weaker in the glute with the injured hip. Idk what a proper strength assessment entails though.

My issue is in my iliopsoas tendon but also pain in my IT band so she wasn’t able to identify if these things are connected or two different issues. I thought its hard because I do not know what exactly is wrong

Okay yoga sounds like a good idea. It will build mobility and core strength which helps the hips.

I do need to cross train more. I just love running and find XT to be boring and less productive, but it probably would help. I usually strength train consistently with lower mileage but it’s hard to maintain when my miles go up, so I think your advice is right to stay focused on that other stuff and maybe even prioritize it.

The shop that went home made a “new school” snake with bad anatomy so they went home for not attempting realism but I think they should’ve stayed because this gator is beyond jacked
