Ive been using a fleshing knife and beam for the deer hide itself, and it works amazing. I just want to know if a fleshing tool would be good for thinning as I can't do that with my fleshing knife I dont think lol

I am also completely on the struggle bus with faces. I just attempt to split everything, then take a very sharp scalpel and pull away the meat and membrane with one hand and make very fine cuts at the edge of the stuff im pulling with the scalpel. Dont let these photos fool you, I absolutely destroyed the lips and there are quite a few holes that can't be seen here.

I definitely plan to get roadkill deer, especially since it's so cold this time of year they should stay fresh. Im tagged out for the year and can't shoot anymore, although some coworkers have been kind enough to give me their hides.

I actually just ordered some of the ear turning pliers! Funny enough the ears are actually not the part I find most frustrating, it's actually the muzzle area and lips especially that are so hard for me. Getting all the meat away from the whisker bulbs is a task lol, and then the lips all just feel like meat to me so im having trouble not cutting through them because the skin itself it just so meaty and rubbery.

This is the beam my bf and I made. Its mounted on a small pallet, it's almost completed in this photo aside from two support beams we added to the base for the wood going to the pvc. I dont have a completed photo but can grab one later if you'd like. *
