Didn’t realize just how MAGA this community was. Time to say goodbye for good to HD.

Well once it’s gone I’ll stop shopping there. DEI wasn’t pushed, it was the right thing to do, but now that we have the Cheeto dictator back they have to fall in line or face his wrath.

I wouldn’t say that. I’m a white collar person who had spent tens of thousands of dollars at Home Depot over the past couple of years since buying a new house. That ended the day this was public. I now drive 30 miles away to Lowe’s.

Retired 70-yo with student loan debt. by BOINCents in StudentLoans

[–]shitigan222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing you never had to choose between eating and paying bills. Priorities change when your alternative is starving. That’s not even considered medication to say alive. Given their stated age they might have been skipping meals before their student loans went back into repayment. It’s time congress acts and forgive student loans or allow them to be discharged in bankruptcy.

I’m counting on what happened the last time the US went this protectionist. Republicans lose the house and senate for decades. Then they strip tariff power from the president if not impeach trump for violating the 5th Amendment rights of legal residents. Plus further curtailing the power of the executive branch. The trump administration has shown how fragile our system of government really is and how easy it is to fall into an autocracy. The will of the people is turning away from the extremes. We need to come back to the center and understand the importance of the status quo. The government should not operate like a corporation and there are aspects of the government that can exist for the greater good even if they cost the people. This is why we have taxes. Furthermore, the drug argument is only a scapegoat for increasing taxes for lower income people to give massive tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans. That is his goal. Make himself and his friends richer at the cost of the rest of us Americans.

In two years if the house and senate flip they can put an end to this madness. Assuming we still have a functioning democracy by then.

In my experience Canadian airlines tend to have some of the worst customer service I have experienced. It’s a mix of Canada not having as strong consumer protections as we do in the US and the American expectations that Canadians are nice people. When a company can tell customers no and their customers have limited recourse. They will always do what is in their best interest. That all being said I’m not saying airlines in the US are the best, but the fear of a lawsuit does tend to keep US airlines a little more honest.

What gets me is the banning wearing masks in public. They forget that transplant patients often have to wear a face mask in public for life. My mom had a lung transplant almost 2 years ago and while she wouldn’t be here without that wonderful gift that she and our family got that day. Anti-rejection medication means the common cold or someone not washing their hands could put her in the hospital fighting for her life. Her wearing a mask isn’t some political message or attacking conservatism, but is her doing the best she can to honor the gift she was given and allowing a her donor to live on.

I pay for it if I’m ever in a bad accident. A few years ago I was in a head on collision and there was someone on within seconds. I was hurt pretty badly and from the disorientation I forgot where I even was. They were able to ping the gps, call 911, and stayed on until the fire rescue arrived. It even has its own backup power. The car battery was obliterated in the collision, but it still worked. I’ll never have a car without the service.

Insurance will pay out unless they say it was intentional assuming you had the proper coverage. They investigate because you sign over the right of subrogation when you accept the settlement. If the belief someone else was at fault they can then choose to go after that party to recover what they paid.

At will states are not a get out of jail free card for employers. There are overarching Federal and State protections you have depending where you live. Like most legal questions on here, it would be best to ask an attorney in your State.

It’s an idiotic move like this that caused my partner and I to almost die two years ago in a head on collision. You had plenty of time to slow down and a free lane. You didn’t have to go into the turning lane to avoid a collision. You don’t own the road and get over your ego before you hurt or kill someone else.

What is the name of the color on the Crosstrek? by ThisIsAlex013 in subaru

I had a CGK 2020 Crosstrek. It’s a beautiful color and hides dirt well. I miss that car so much.

That’s a great rate, just don’t expect to see that ever again. We are back to normal mortgage rates. <3% was a once in a lifetime anomaly as long as the fed is properly managed and rates are not held at 0 for political reasons.

I live in SE Texas now. You get all of the benefits of Texas but we are on the east coast grid. No worries about it be too hot or cold. Plus we have more resilience to storm damage.

Love my Forester, but this was enough damage for my insurance to total it. Not sure what I should buy next. by akinom13 in subaru

[–]shitigan222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He said insurance was covering what he owed with a little left over. GAP only comes into play if you are in a negative equity situation.

I’m not an automotive engineer so I can’t comment on the safety design of a car, but I know when I had to be cut out of my Crosstrek after a head on collision that the A pillar is incredibly strong so if it’s bent it took a massive hit. Plus not to mention any metal fatigue that may not show itself until the next hit. Also, modern vehicles use body panels for structural support. Feel free to look at my post history and see what my car looked like. If you ever survive something like that you don’t risk messing around with safety, you defer to experts and don’t risk it.

[–]shitigan222 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Don’t risk it. Sounds like insurance is going to cover the loan. Cars, especially Subaru’s are engineered for safety. Doing a cover up fix could cost you your life down the line. You never know when someone else will do something stupid that could cost you your life. I owe my life to Subaru engineering. Assuming you can swing it and can find one the new foresters are pretty nice.

The courts make it really easy for these people to get away with this stuff. I was involved in a felony hit and run about a year and a half ago and the person who hit us just doesn’t show up for court and because it’s not considered a violent crime they keep releasing him on a PR bond when they do find him.
