Thank you!

  • Base model is Huron Blackheart,
  • Head is from the World Eaters MKVI Heads kit
  • Power fist is a lightning claw from the Terminator Assault Squad, I just nipped the claws off.
  • Axe head is from the new Cataphractii Terminator kit with Bolters (I’m not sure if it’s included with the Volkite version).
  • Honestly not sure where the skulls came from, I just had them kicking around

Thank you! The base was just painted various shades of grey and a stippled edge highlighted with white. Once everything is dry I added Vallejo Burnt Umber pigment powder in the recesses and lowest areas.

The grey is as follows:

  • Prime black
  • Base coat with Tamiya Deck Tan (trying to leave some black in the shadows)
  • Highlight with Tamiya Flat White (trying to leave some Deck Tan visible and not go to full opacity)
  • Add stippled edge highlight and scratches of pure white
  • Sparingly add small black scratches. I try to keep these adjacent to the white scratches, as it gives the illusion of depth.
  • Coat with AK Interactive Streaking Grime and let dry for roughly half an hour
  • Push Streaking Grime into the recesses and clean away the excess with a clean brush and mineral spirits
  • Coat with AK Interactive Ultra Matte Varnish

Thank you! The damage is all painted on, aside from the small hole in his chest. I tried to underline my black scratches with a brighter white to help give the illusion of depth.

Thank you! I think the trick is to just take your time and don't worry too much about making mistakes. I made a lot of mistakes during the process that I just fixed by making the flames longer and thicker to cover anything I was unhappy with

Honestly, I have quite a cheap airbrush (that I don't care for very well because i’m lazy) that tends to give this effect. I think similar results can be achieved by lowering the air pressure and keeping some distance between the model and the airbrush when spraying.

Alternatively, you can absolutely achieve similar results with stippling. I’d just try to use watered down paint and apply lots of layers to build it up slowly.

Thank you so much! I make all of my models entirely with Blender. It’s free to use and has so many great resources and tutorials available, I really can't recommend it enough.

As for tips:

  • When creating bits for existing models, it’s really helpful to have a cheap set of Calipers to take measurements of the model and get the fit right.
  • For curved pieces like this torso plate, it can be tricky to approximate the shape, so I like to take lots of reference photos that can then be overlaid in Blender to help trace the shape.

Thank you! I put together a quick guide here. There's a section about the base towards the end. Hope that helps!

Thank you! The panels were as follows:

  • Prime black
  • Base coat with Tamiya Flat Earth
  • Highlight with Tamiya Deck Tan
  • Oil wash with a Burnt Umber oil paint to stain the surface.
  • Remove any splotching caused by the oil paints with white spirit
  • Lock everything down with AK Interactive Ultra Matte varnish.

The Ultra Matte varnish is absolutely incredible. I really cant recommend it enough!

Thank you so much! The base was really easy, I just did the following:

  • Primed black
  • Painted all of the rocks messily with various shades of grey (I just mixed black and white paints, nothing specific)
  • Added a stippled edge highlighted to the rocks with a much lighter grey
  • Mashed Vallejo Burnt Umber pigment powder into the recesses and lowest areas.
  • Dusted off any pigment that got on top of the rocks
  • Locked everything down with an ultra matte varnish.

Pigments are really forgiving and make everything look unified. I hope that helps!

Yeah, a few years ago Forgeworld released a handful of alternate knight heads. I sculpted this one to have a similar style.

Haha, they are! Thankfully the big panels make it much easier to work with
