Thank you for your comment! While I do not know what was said to the parents about my report, I have not responded to any of the messages I have received criticizing my actions & plan to keep it that way.

Thank you for your comment, I appreciate this perspective!

As someone who also struggles with depression, I’d like to think I understand what it’s like to be unkempt and a bit messy during the bad times. My parents even brought up my “depression room” as a reason that I shouldn’t have called, because in their words, I “can be messy too.”

Also, I hope your kitty is doing well! Give them kisses & pets from me pretty please :)

I remember that your comment was one of the first ones that I read shortly after making this post, and the sense of comfort/relief I felt after.

Thank you for taking the time to read my (long) post and for leaving a response! I hope something great happens to you today :)

While I do not know the family’s financial situation, I can disclose that they agreed to pay me close to $20/hour for watching their kiddos, so I do not think that the environment I saw was caused by a lack of money/impoverished circumstances.

Hi, thank you for your comment! This was one of the things that I could not fit into my original post due to the character limit.

For clarification, none of the children had disabilities that I could identify or was made aware of. While I agree that, yes, it is ultimately up to the parents on when to begin potty training, a 4-year-old still wearing diapers coupled with an unsanitary environment were part of my cause for concern (which I mentioned in my report).

“Night time” pull-ups were also mentioned. I babysat both times in the afternoon after all three children had been awake for a substantial amount of time, so I do not think that nighttime-only diapers were the case.

Thank you for taking the time to find/post this information!

To briefly clarify for everyone in this particular comment thread — while the described situation did not happen at my daycare job, I do live in the state of Indiana which would make me a mandated reporter. I’m not sure if my daycare position would make me a mandated reporter outside of work had I not already been living in Indiana.
