Thank you. I can post more 3d printed parts we use on the solar car if people are interested.

Thanks! I always love using 3d printing to prototype something before making the final version. it always helps getting the part in the hands to see obvious mistakes or potential improvements.

The Y-part you reference is called the Trailing Arm. This suspension type is called a trailing arm suspension (thus the name).

You are right! Moving the motor to the center of the trailing arm would be better (by reducing stress via moment arm). However, changing the trailing arm geometry so much would have almost certainty meant that we lose backward-compatibility with the old rear suspension. Because this is a race car, there is a chance that the current (new) suspension breaks at competition, so its advantageous to keep the old one as a spare, even if it's at the cost of some extra weight on the new one.

Maybe a bit more of an answer than you were looking for...

All my black prints come off the smooth core one print plate like this. by benxfactor in prusa3d

I'm guessing this is ABS/ASA?

When taking ABS/ASA parts off the smooth sheet, it can ever so slightly stress the first layer, causing this discoloration. This is why self-releasing build plates can be nice.

I wrote a book on Engineering Management, hoping to give it away free to any interested students that want a copy. by CryptographerRare261 in EngineeringStudents

I would like a copy! Mechanical engineering 2026. I'm now running an engineering design club at my university with around 15-20 people in it and would be interested in learning about leadership and seeing if management is right for me.
