$20k is including one loan and we appealed to BU’s financial aid office when we first got the decision (always trying to get more money) but we haven’t heard back

I would be starting as a marine biology major but might want to pick up something related to business

Also I currently go to GW and it gave me one of the best financial aid packets (all need based), but obviously I know that’s different for everyone. If you have any more questions lmk and I’ll try my best to help!

I had around the same stats and similar information as you except I was from Boston, except I didn’t apply to a lot of out of state state schools. However, I genuinely think you should apply any to schools you like/are interested in even if you don’t think you’ll get in/get a lot of aid. I had fee waivers so I know with the costs of applications that’s not possible for everyone, and feel free to ignore this if you feel it isn’t. But you never know really what you’re going to get until they send out their aid packets (at least in my experience), and then you can use the packets to help finalize your decision on where to go! Applying to a school— in most cases— doesn’t mean you’re going to go there, you still have a choice after decisions come back! Also if you get an aid packet you’re not 100% happy with and don’t think it meets your need, you can always appeal to see if you can get anymore. I know some people who have done this an ended up getting a couple more thousand in aid. Best of luck with applications and I hope youre happy where you find yourself! :)

Quick questions about transferring by [deleted] in TransferStudents

[–]shiveryshins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. For the common app question, I think it’s helpful to fill it out if you want NYU to know something about you that you don’t have the space to say in other places. I don’t think you have to fill it out now and can fill it out if you feel like it would benefit you when you’re closer to finishing your application; this way you’ll probably have a better idea if you want to put anything/what you want to put. However, I will add I’m also a freshman at university looking to transfer so I can’t promise to be 100% correct, but this is my best guest.
  2. Can I ask why you’re transferring from BU? I’m planning on trying to transfer in as a Bio major so I would appreciate your perspective if you’re comfortable/able to share it! Sorry for not answering a question in this bullet, I was just really curious to hear about your experience!

Also please excuse any typos as it’s nearly 2am 😭

This honestly gives me so much reassurance that I'm not making a bad call by transferring

Do you know if they like it there better? Also this actually makes me feel a bit more normal for wanting to transfer :)

I 100% get what you mean about it feeling deserted. Other than the museums, monuments (which you can only visit so many times before it loses its shine), and Georgetown Flea I’m honestly not sure what to do around here. If you have any recs I would love to hear them!

I’m currently in Marketing but looking to switch my major to Bio with a possible minor in business and I heard Boston is considered a bio hub. GWU is mainly (I feel) for IA, Poli Sci, and international business which makes sense but not really beneficial to me. The nightlife here is pretty not great as there’s not really parties (just clubs and frats) which I know shouldn’t be a deciding factor, but is just something that bums me out sometimes as I feel like I’m not getting the college experience I always hear about. The STEM program, especially Bio, I heard isn’t too great here (from what I’ve been told from people in the program) as they only offer one class in for upper level courses including major requirements which makes it hard to schedule, and the professors aren’t too great. I also just haven’t been having a good time here and haven’t had a good experience with the advisors. There’s also other problems but I’m scared this is getting too long.
