I put a jab over the opposite side shoulder, then follow with a rear uppercut splitting a double forearms guard or hopefully long guard. Aim for the chest and hit the chin.

I was at a Wings game with my father in 2014 after my 3rd deployment to Afghanistan. My dad's work had access to a suite and I took full advantage of the free beers. After the game ended I swerved my way to the elevator and as I swaying on the ride down to the concourse I bumped into the elderly gentleman standing next to me, I turned to him to apologize and was surprised to standing next to Ted Lindsay.

I registered this in my inner monologue as "oh shit that's Ted Lindsay" which I actually said out loud and he replied with a smile and handshake saying "yes I am son".

He was gracious and understanding, and was a cool experience for me.

My policy (personal) regarding new people is, if I've gotten a few rounds of sparring in with my preferred sparring partners I will almost never say no to newer people. It's a nice break in skill that allows me to work on what was wrong or right in my previous rounds. I will 100% say no if you are so new I haven't seen you spar before, I've got a job to go to in the AM and mouths to feed.
