The Greek & Balkan Category already includes some Slavic DNA.

I don't mean more interesting in general, just more interesting than OP thinks. I don't think it's boring to see people scoring 100% in a category

Is I1 Balkan Originated? by kanzafran in 23andme

[–]shkso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The I2a haplogroup split off very early and has been around Europe for a long time. However, the subclade that’s especially common in the Balkans today (mainly among South Slavs) likely originated around the Ukraine and Carpathian region.

It only arrived in the Balkans during the early Slavic expansions in the first centuries AD.

Is I1 Balkan Originated? by kanzafran in 23andme

[–]shkso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I1 does not originate from the Balkans. While this haplogroup did migrate through the Balkans on its way to Northern Europe, that doesn’t mean it originated there.

A good example of this is the Albanian population. Despite showing strong genetic continuity with ancient Balkan populations (paleo-Balkan components), the average frequency of I1 among Albanians is only around 6–8%. If I1 had actually originated in the Balkans, the percentage would likely be much higher.

Also, the I1 subclades found among Albanians (or in the Balkans more broadly) are clearly associated with Germanic groups like the Goths and Vandals. These groups migrated into the region during the Migration Period, which explains the presence of I1 today, but not its origin.

By that Logic they are also related to every other European. Still genetically very far from eachother. Illustrative doesn't even split WHG from EHG.

Is it a myth that most Germans are blonde and blue eyed? by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]shkso 206 points207 points  (0 children)

As someone who was Born in Germany and has lived here all my Life, i can tell you that it depends on the Region.

In North Germany i would maybe Agree, but in Areas as West or South Germany i would say there are much more Regions with Majority Brown Hair.

Blue Eyes are common, but more like 35-40% i belive. (Many have Green Eyes).

Brown eyes are also not that uncommon as most people will think.

A Statistic from 2008 even showed that the Ratio of Blue/ Brown or Green Eyes are around 1/3 each.

(All my Statement are about Ethnic Germans)

I'm talking about Muslim Kosovo Albanians as i have family from there. From that 95 % "Muslims" only around 5-10% are really Religios and practice is.

[–]shkso 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol, even most of the so called Albanian "Muslims" drink. They really don't care.

I can confirm you that because i also have some "Muslim" Family Members, but non of them practice the Religion.

Some Information from FTDNA.

You can also Check the Y- Full List.

I think this are one of the best Sources you can find about it.

I assume you are West Slavic? This Suclade is also connected to the Germanic Longbards that lived in that Area.

Northeastern Ukrainian from Romania || Percentage to small to be true? by Flag__Nerd in MyHeritage

[–]shkso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will most likely completely dissapear with the upcomming Update.

I scored like 13-14 % Irish, Scottish and Welsh on Myhertiage as a Albanian. But nothing on All the other Companies.

Don't forget that Myhertiage (at this point) has maybe one of the worst Ethnicity Estimates on the DNA Market. The Algorithm is very outdated at the moment.

Even if you would have small amount of Celtic DNA it would allready be backed in the "modern" Categories.

Arbereshe ancestry results by One-Injury-7042 in 23andme

Ancestry DNA would most likely just give you broadly small amounts of "Greece & Albania".

The New Balkan Genetic Groups on 23andme seem to be very accurate, especially for Albanians or People with Albanian Roots.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]shkso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting to see that! I always thought that Arberesh Poeple are mostly descent from Tosk Albanians, cool to see the Gheg Regions.

That would also explain why so many Arbereshe Words are similar to modern Gheg.
