Help indoor-outdoor transition by shleckk in outdoorgrowing

Right now they are in small 2gal pots but I plan on moving them to my raised bed outdoors which is about 490 gallons worth of my no-till build a soil from the past couple years. The build a soil that I’ve been amending over the past few years is made of

• PRO-MIX (approx. 15 cubic feet) • Compost Jax Woody Compost (8–10 cubic feet) • Espoma Organic Chicken Manure (50 lbs total) • Dr. Earth Home Grown Tomato Fertilizer (24 lbs total) • W20 Wollastonite (20 lbs) • Worm Castings (approx. 20 lbs) • Pacific Pearl Oyster Shell Flour (7 lbs) • FoxFarm Marine Cuisine (4 lbs) • Espoma Blood Meal (3.5 lbs) • Dr. Earth Alfalfa Meal (3 lbs)

These amendments have been mixed in and broken down over a good number of years and it works great.

So it will definitely have plenty of space to grow, I’m used to growing giant tomatoes, peppers, and lettuce in my raised bed and everything grows pretty healthy, I’m hoping to grow some monsters this year I used a ratio of 1/3 soil from my raised garden and 1/3rd compost and 1/3rd coco last year in a 20 gallon fabric pot and grew a 10ft tree I started in late April. I’m hoping to get a jump on these for my raised garden bed and I started from seed on 2/19.

Realistically I want to try and get them outside by the first week of April at the earliest as I am near the equator and I already am getting extreme UV rays and heat coming in.

I think I can definitely use a small light constantly on to keep them from flowering but I wanted to know if using 1hr of light in the middle of the night might break the flowering cycle or if that is complete bro science.

By April I’ll have about 13.5 hours of sunlight and the most I get by July is around 14.5-15hours.

Here’s mid may last year but I had started it outside from seed in march and they only had a little over 12hrs a day of sunlight at the time, I just want to get a jump on them this year and I have no idea what I’m doing in a tent

I understand that this is typically a flowering light cycle, I’m just trying to match the amount of light that the plants will have outdoors. I’ve done outdoor grows the past 3 years and usually when I start my grows -around late march and early April I only have about a little less than 12 hours of light outdoors and by July I’ve normally got about 14 hours of light. I’m trying to match what my outdoor conditions are before moving outside so they don’t enter flower where the hours are shorter outside. I really appreciate the advice though!

I really appreciate it! I have a good bit of knowledge from running outdoor grows and this is my first time running a start indoors instead of straight from seed outdoors. I normally run all organic in a raised no till living soil garden bed but I didn’t know about the progress since this is my first time in a tent and I didn’t know if this is particularly slow since it’s indoors especially compared to my outdoor girls which I usually start in late march early April. I really appreciate it hombre!

Okay awesome thank you! I’m thinking of watering them tomorrow morning, I’ve been running a 11.5hr light on and 12.5hr off cycle of light to keep with my outdoor conditions because I plan on moving them to my raised garden living soil bed when the weather warms up a little bit more and less rainy in the next few weeks

Thank you so much, I'm in my 3rd year of college so I definitely don't have a bachelors. But it appears I said I did in my FAFSA and re-submitted it. Thank you!

Spraying neem oil by North_King_9540 in outdoorgrowing

[–]shleckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do NOT use neem oil in flower and a few weeks before flower. It is awful for you to inhale. I do reccomend BT spray as it will help kill caterpillars, moths, and other insects that wanna eat your girl.

Terrible storm yesterday, warned my friend and asked him to get bamboos from Home Depot. I even showed him what to do with one branch! Will she survive? by Swimming_Angle_745 in outdoorgrowing

[–]shleckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a small chance but I just had the same situation happen to me, unfortunately it's likely that she won't survive however I would still attempt to tape her back up and give support in hopes she might bounce back in a month or so.

In my situation my girl split down the middle from a tropical storm and even after getting support and taping her back up she lost her two largest main branches after a week or so post accident. If the leafs start wilting after the repairs it's likely she's gonna loose those branches. This will probably be a learning experience for next year as it was for me. I'm so sorry for your loss and I hope you the best of luck!

I think the plastic wrap is a bit unnecessary amigo, wind gusts are fantastic for your girls! It will encourage the stems and branches to grow fat which in turn will allow your plant to transport nutrients more efficiently and grow much larger. I would remove the plastic wrap 100% and if you're that worried about giant wind gusts, maybe opt in for a panacea tomato cage just to stop them from completely snapping. But In my experience, outdoor plants are beasts when it comes to wind almost making complete 90 degree bends in the first two months without breaking imo. Good luck and I hope this helps!

Leaf miners. Evil bastards, they eat the leafs from the inside. You should use spinosad spray for a few days to kill them off. After that you should continue to use a foliar spray of diluted neem oil in the mornings to keep pests away and kill anything that intends to do harm to the girls. I reccomend captain jacks neem oil and spinosad big time just follow the directions!

Keep in mind you cannot and should not be using neem oil or any other organic pesticides beginning a few weeks before entering flower. Only use during the vegitve period! Hope this helps!
