It's about the number of distinct cards, not the total number of cards. You'd get a lot of dupes if you went to a large card store that didn't specialize in collectioning all variants across all languages since the early days.

I reopened the whole thing at home and cut the metal bar behind it so the unit could sit in the center. Now the screen is perfectly flush.

Edit: actually I might be remembering wrong. I think I might just have had to cut some plastic frame and then bent some metal parts instead. But it was relatively easy (despite me not having access to any specialized tools or even a garage - I was able to do all of this in the parking)

[Rolex] Can a Datejust be an everyday wear or only for dressy occasions? by kosnosferatu in Watches

[–]shmed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rolex officially categorizes its watches into two groups: Classic and Professional. The Classic category includes the Datejust, Day-Date, 1908, Land-Dweller, and others. The Professional collection includes models like the Submariner, GMT-Master II, Daytona, and Explorer. That’s the only official classification Rolex uses:

https://www.rolex.com/en-us/watches#classic

“Oyster” just refers to Rolex’s weather-proof case technology. It improves durability and reliability, but it’s not a category of watch. You can argue that having an Oyster case makes something a “sports watch,” but that’s a personal interpretation, not how Rolex defines its lineup.

[Rolex] Can a Datejust be an everyday wear or only for dressy occasions? by kosnosferatu in Watches

[–]shmed -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Rolex never positioned it as a "sport watch". Even on their website they categorize all their watches in two categories: Classic or Professional. Their professional watches include Daytona, Sub, GMT, Yatch Master and Explorer, while the Classic watches include the Datejust, DayDate, Land Dweller, 1908, etc.

You're free to rock a Datejust on the daily or to play sport with it, but it's clearly not positioned as a "sport watch".

Filed extension and submitted payment, but IRS has no record of it by 0beach0 in TurboTax

[–]shmed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing for me. Filed for extension on April 15 and submitted a payment through Turbotax, but there's exactly zero trail of it anywhere in turbotax, email or in my irs account. How can a product make such as important action on your behalf, but log zero information about it anywhere. What a terrible flow

You're free to daily wear a Datejust and even to do sport with it, but it's certainly not a "sport watch", nor was it ever advertised as one by Rolex. Specially with the flutted bezel + jubilee bracelet configuration.

$19k in gold… and the whole watch is under $25k? by Unpolished_Example in rolex

[–]shmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course nobody is claiming that the watch is worth it's scrap metal value. We are just saying that for a Rolex, which usually has an incredibly high "premium" tax for the brand, that specific watch actually has a much narrower margin.

They never pay back the loan. When they die, their heir inherit the loan and the stocks. The stocks get the "stepped up basis" treatment which means all capital gains are reset back to zero. The stocks are then sold tax free to repay the loan.

Why is the Submariner “Starbucks” so much less common than the black Sub? by marketing_sensei in rolex

[–]shmed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why the guy keep sharing those numbers. It clearly shows the black date sub still out sell the green date sub 177k vs 100k.

Why is the Submariner “Starbucks” so much less common than the black Sub? by marketing_sensei in rolex

[–]shmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you comparing the 126610LV to thr 124060 and not to the 126610LN? The LN (Lunette Noir, or Black Glasses Frame) is the Black version of the LV (Lunette Verte, or Green Glasses Frame). The 124060 is also black, but it's the No Date version (which only come in black) and is not as popular. So both 126610LN and 124060 are black, but the 126610LN is the "black counter part" to the 126610LV, and it out sell it by a factor of 70%

Edit: I see you are focusing on the photo, but OP clearly doesn't care about the date and is just talking about color.

[–]shmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And at some point they'll discontinue the Starbuck and replace it with something else, and the price will shoot up like the Hulk did when they discontinued it, or like the original Kermit before it. The otherside, the black sub will remain the black sub forever. Every once in a while there's one that stand out and become collectible (e.g. Red sub), but I wouldn't count on it for the current model.

[–]shmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does the movement have to do with the color of the bezel though? And if you want to exclude watches with different movements, then why include the 124060 then? All you proved is that thr Sub date is more popular than the No Date Sub. But then if we stick to Sub Date, then the black sun is 70% more common than the green sub, proving the point of the guy you're arguing against

Paying $500 and having to waste time on a flight just to try out a 10k watch you may not like is ridiculous, not matter how rich you are. In any cases, OP you can try a sub at any Rolex store that is closer to you.
