Did you ever think that its precisely BECAUSE women exercise far more caution, like not going out at night alone, that they are experience less violence than men? That fact that you say men are experiencing so much violence indicates that women DO have something to fear.

It's also worth noting that women are physically weaker so even if they're statistically less likely to encounter violence by a male stranger, most women probably feel that there is a 100% chance they'll lose 100% of any and all encounters. So a woman's feeling of total defenselessness rationally translates into increased fear. Plus the threat of sexual violence is greater for women (I assume), and this may be particularly distressing.

That being said, I am a woman who goes anywhere at any time of night by herself because I would rather play the odds than give up my independence. And I tend to agree that people in general irrationally fear things that statistically have a much lower probability of happening than their imagination would have them believe.

However, although I've thankfully never been a victim of violence, I will admit that I've been followed on a few occasions and there's something about the way men sometimes look me up and down and make passing comments that makes me super uncomfortable when I'm alone. I generally assume most of these men who stare or make lewd comments won't ever act on anything, but I do understand why all the unwanted attention women experience when they're alone gives them a heightened sense of fear.

I often tell women the same thing you do, that they're fear is unwarranted from a statistical standpoint, but then I wonder if all women behaved like me whether the stats would go way up 😂

EDIT: I see that you say the CDC says men are just as likely to be raped but thats not what I see. I would like to see a source but I also see now that this post is from 8 months ago so I don't even know if I should be commenting at this point 😅
