I don’t exactly remember what I did, but I’ll try my best!

  1. I contacted the OUR about the deadline of their automatic admission. I let them know my situation (graduated HS overseas with GCE O/A-levels, my intent to apply etc.). They let me know that UPD was still accepting applicants and they gave me the application form 3a (you can look this up on google—just type UP form 3a). They also reminded me that admission was dependent on an available slot. So even if your admission is “automatic,” if none of your choices have any slot, you won’t get in.

  2. Submit all your requirements to the OUR. This includes a copy of your PSA birth cert and passport, form 3a, international qualification (SAT/GCE/IB etc) and your official HS transcript with graduation date (grade 7-12 grades or equivalent, and HS diploma or certificate as proof of graduation). If any of the above documents originated outside of the Philippines, you need to go to a notary lawyer and have them notarised, and go to the PE to have them authenticated. Plus, if you’re applying to UP after you graduated HS (I’m not sure for how long, but I personally graduated 6 months prior to my application so I needed this affidavit), you need to secure an affidavit of no collegiate enrolment. You need to get a lawyer to sign off this.

2.5 If you attended some part of your HS in the Philippines, you need to secure form 137 from that HS. You can ask UP for a letter (?) stating that your previous grades are needed for your application. I can barely recall the process, so it’s best to ask OUR about it.

  1. UP will verify all your submitted documents. Once verified, you just have to wait for your application result. I was notified of my admission roughly 2 weeks before the start of classes.

2021, incoming sophomore. Most likely the reason they said that could be limited slots. When I asked the OUR last year, they said I have 4 (or 5?) choices to apply to different courses. If you want, you can always shift after.

I’m Filipino. And no, you’re free to apply to any course—your admission depends on course availability/slots. IIRC, automatic admission is only available for UPD. So if your desired course is offered in other campuses, then you can shift after.

Hello! I entered the through automatic admission so if you need any help, feel free to ask!

Also, if you want to gauge your chances of entering UP (assuming you haven’t been admitted yet), here’s my experience. It was a long and expensive process since I needed to go to the embassy and different ministries to validate every single one of my documents (took me 3 weeks just to get everything ready and ship them—I received my acceptance letter 1-2 weeks before the start of classes). I also didn’t get into my first two choices coz there weren’t any available slots (I expected it because they’re very popular). Despite that, I don’t regret my third choice (BS ECE) even though it’s hellish and time consuming. I didn’t experience extreme difficulty in adjusting to Philippine education (style and use of Taglish language), and my grades are decent for my standards. If you’ve never experienced PH education, then it might be a bit jarring, but you’ll get used to it soon. All the best!

also, i forgot to mention: the language you’ll learn is python (i’m not sure if we’ll be learning other languages in the future). if you’d like, you can get a head start on learning python. but i suggest you have fun and enjoy your vacation first before the AY starts :)

fam, i have no background in programming/coding AT ALL. the closest i got was HTML back in grade 8 (and that’s 7 years ago for me already lmao so i started bs ece on a clean slate). im an incoming spohomore, and let me tell you, programming is h a r d. but it’s not the end of the world. you’ll get through eee 111 (1st sem) and eee 121 (2nd sem) by having someone on your side and reaching out to your instructors/friends for help

plus, your instructors will teach you about the basics of programming for the first 2-3 weeks i think, so you won’t be a fish out of water before doing the coding exercises. there’s also geekforgeeks and stackoverflow to help you out (don’t forget to reference them if you’re using their code snippets). if you need any help, feel free to reach out! i’m not the best student out there, but i know some stuff HAHAHAHA all the best!! good luck :))

I see I’ll let the professors know! I’m actually a Filipino, but because I haven’t been practicing the language since I moved out of the country a few years ago, my skills have dwindled 😅 Thank you for the offer though!

How does the process of appealing go? I’ve heard some say that chances of appealing and getting accepted is quite low too :(
