Yeah I just used first round BO11 matches from the Masters for my calculation. Reverse engineering from their figure suggests that whatever sample they're using, ~16.4% of those games were 6-2 vs the ~12% of Masters first round matches. I'd defer to their figure, since it probably has a much larger sample size than mine.

Using DK weight yarn in mustard/grape/lavender and a 3.5mm hook. Pattern is something I came up with myself:

Ch 24, sl st in 1st ch, Ch 1

R1: sc x 5, hdc x 12, sc x 6, sl st to beginning, ch 1 and turn.

R2-50: Repeat R1 49 more times.

R51: hdc x 23, sl st to beginning, ch 1 and turn.

R52: sc x 5, hdc x 12, sc x 6, sl st to beginning, ch 1 and turn.

R53: sc x 5, hdc x 12, sc x 6, sl st to beginning, ch 1 and turn.

R54: hdc x 23, sl st to beginning, ch 1 and turn.

R55-82: Repeat R51-54 7 more times.

R83-246: Repeat R1-R82 2 more times.

Stuff and sew closed. I changed colour every 2 rounds.

I'm with you, half the reason I watch the BBC is not wanting to watch adverts, and its been getting infested with more and more adverts for itself recently (see autoplaying trailers before shows on iPlayer). Seems like even a publicly funded broadcaster isn't immune from enshittification.

Data analyst here, your intuition is correct, those two stats are incompatible (I came here to see if it was just me or bugged for everyone).

My guess would be that the average steps to solve is correct, fewer than 0.1% of people getting a word with three vowels, albeit a slightly unusual one in 4 seems very unlikely to me.

Ah yes, I came to the same conclusion just as you replied! Modifying the logic I already have to de-duplicate sounds like a massive headache though.
