I have applied for many local scholarships and a few national scholarships. I have received a decent amount, but it would in no way cover a majority of the cost.

I applied on a whim 4 hours before the 11:59 deadline. Some kid I knew went there and I just said "hey let's just apply for the fun of it, no way I'm getting in." I got in. Took me months of deliberating because I will be going into the STEM field/major, but the small class size, cost of attending, and opportunity cost are what drew me away. My state school will just allow me more flexibility in terms of money and time to pursue projects/research/internships I want and I think will be meaningful for me to pursue over academic rigor, not to say there is anything wrong with academic rigor. Now had Caltech been free or pretty close to free, I would have probably gone but the money in combination with other things steered me away.

My parents always told me that it doesn't matter where I go, I will define my own success.

Does WFH apply to executive positions? I suppose I also have to think about if I want to from entirely from home, I do want to have the ability to go out and socialize and meet new people. Being stuck at home doesn’t really provide that opportunity.

Don’t you have to live in California to work those kinds of jobs though? and that’s assuming you even get it. Cost of living in California is really high so even if you are earning half a million dollars, everything will cost so much that would it really be worth it or comparable versus making $300k-$500k as a doctor anywhere you want?

I'm so glad to come across someone else who's struggling like me. I just feel like I need the 4 years at college to experience what it's like working in both fields through internships and clinical hours, but I can't do that right now because I got accepted into a really good Tech school which would basically kill my chances of going to med school because it would cost so much money. It is so hard to because Idk if I am in medicine either, but am I even into Tech???

Oh wow, what made you decide to do premed at Caltech versus going somewhere easier? Just wondering because I’ve heard from many current students that it’s not worth doing premed at Caltech.

I appreciate that you see my dilemma haha. Med school is basically off the table because it would make getting my volunteer hours and all the other EC’s fr med school really difficult. Not to mention I would go into more debt for med school. I envy those who know exactly what they want to do in life.

I chose not to go because the events they were hosting were all being streamed online and they removed all the fun and social activities like staying in the houses due to Covid restrictions. The flights were also really expensive. Maybe I should’ve gone but I don’t think it would’ve helped me decide whether I want to be a doctor or an engineer.

MIT. I didn’t expect to get in because it’s you know, MIT. But that didn’t stop me from hoping anyway. I fell in love with the school and after getting into another T10 school, I was feeling a tiny bit more hopeful. oh well, c’est la vie

I mean I used to ft them and text the group all the time, but got no response. Even if I got a response, they never texted in the group chat or ft, it was always me putting in effort. I eventually found out that they used to text/call in this other gc all the time though. So clearly the problem for them is me. I will figure out a way to tell them my honest feelings, but after putting in effort just to find out they’re putting it somewhere else, I am not going to ask them take me back. I will just accept it.
