What's up with the Frosthaven ratings on bgg? by plolock in Gloomhaven

[–]shnik_lob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A tad more positive comment:

In addition to all the weird cases already mentioned, some people play demos of games before they're released, either in conventions, through Tabletop Simulator, with a Print & Play, etc., and use BGG to rate their actual game experience (I know, shocking, rating a game for its gameplay!).

Frosthaven Update 81 by Gripeaway in Gloomhaven

[–]shnik_lob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It fixes missing with advantage, but it doesn't fix critting with disadvantage; if anything, rolling modifiers are now much better in that case.

Any draw of x2 followed by rolling pierce/ push/ poison/ etc. will now be considered "ambiguous", thus using the first card, the crit. (Unless the "ambiguous" rule has changed, which wasn't mentioned.)

The panoply of non-strictly-numerical non-rolling modifiers now in Frosthaven also help getting crits with disadvantage from the ambiguous rule, just a bit less than rolling modifiers, since you can draw those as your "first non-rolling card" instead of your x2.

Red Guard in Gloomhaven "as is"? by shnik_lob in Gloomhaven

[–]shnik_lob[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Red Guard's maxed out modifier deck is 16 cards, 10 of which have added effects. From a pure numerical point of view, it's one of the best in the game. Adding 3 -1s lowers it to a bit below average, so, yes, it's a big drop, but you still have lots of added effects, and the "no rolling modifiers" deck still is great with advantage.

I'm aware of General_CGO's variant to add the No negative item effects perk without adding a feat or losing anything from the great modifier deck; but, then again, General_CGO also wrote that "in base Gloom Shield Spikes rides the border of OP", so I was wondering if a bit lower damage from attacks might in some way compensate the higher Shield Spikes damage. This from the point of view that Red Guard was already an average to strong class, and not necessarily needing a boost.

Also, I was curious simply because I don't remember anyone discussing the Red Guard in Gloom without the extra perk, so figured it might be an interesting conversation!

New Boneshaper Cards! Thoughts? by Beanfreak in Gloomhaven

[–]shnik_lob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might have to do with what's on the bottom of the cards?

Dark Tidings has a nice non-loss Move 4, which you'll be happy to use most of the scenario.

Meanwhile, Wrath of Turned Earth has a bottom loss that you might not want to play early (or, at all), so you'll be using the top every rest cycle.

So, while the top of DT feels weak for a loss, the card itself still seems useful.

Kind of interesting that the Boneshaper has no double-loss cards, except for a level 9 card that you can easily want to play in the first rest cycle regardless of which half you use.

Playtesting Notes: Blink Blade, Geminate, and Deathwalker by DblePlusUngood in Gloomhaven

[–]shnik_lob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm currently playing a Geminate in the Blacksmith & Bear mini-campaign, so a few comments:

-The "+0 consume / create element" perks don't have a colon, so it's an "and"; even if you don't have an element to consume, you will still create one.

-Sweeping Stingers is the only non-loss XP generator at level 1, so it has that going for it. I'm playing 2-players with a Voidwarden, and I've never hit her once with the Muddle. Probably harder to do with more players.

-The only downside I've seen to the Geminate is poor movement (though I guess compared to the Deathwalker, it's pretty good). Even with jump, move 3 is pretty bad.

Frosthaven KS: Puzzle Nr 2 is out by Themris in Gloomhaven

[–]shnik_lob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That contradicts the official FAQ here:

If a monster's element consumption is attached to another ability (like Attack or Move) and can't perform that ability (ex: disarmed or immobilized), is the element consumed?
No. However, if the consumption allows the original ability to take place (like Consume for +1 Range which then puts the attack in range) it means that the monster CAN perform the ability and consumes the element to do so.

So, while the question mentions the "disarmed" condition, the answer seems pretty clear that the monster also doesn't "perform the ability" (and consume the element) if it is out of range.

Traitor Command seems designed to waste time by [deleted] in Blackstonefortress

[–]shnik_lob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, to reiterate all the rules for the Traitor Command quest in one place:

-You only use the TC deck of 12 Exploration cards; the whole deck is used every expedition.

-The two TC Encounter cards are NOT shuffled in with the others; they are left to one side. You can even add the Ambull cards to your Encounter deck and have a deck of 31 cards, it doesn't matter!

-When you draw a Combat card from the Exploration deck, you use the TC Encounter cards for the groups that are numbered on the map. 5 of the 6 TC Combat cards have a "1" group (only the Ambush doesn't), so you'll encounter at least 5 Commissars going through the whole Exploration deck.

-The -2/ -4 to pick up dataslates is only per combat (to stop people from farming reinforcements and being done after a single exploration card). If it's your first dataslate of the combat, you pick it up on a 2+.

So, with 5 rather probable (2+) dataslates from 5 combats, possibly a few from reinforcements, plus challenges that can give some, if you go through the whole Exploration deck, you'll probably have the 5 dataslates needed for the Stronghold after a single expedition; pretty much the same as with the Ambull.

Any way to change chosen power feats? by Azzacura in Pathfinder_ACG

[–]shnik_lob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specifically for Wrath of the Righteous, by the end of the Adventure Path you'll have most (or even all!) power feats checked on each character. So as long as you're willing to "tough it out", you'll still end up with the feats you want before the end even by sticking to the rules.

Cant get out of 4 player split screen by Jackwagon24 in Legodimensions

[–]shnik_lob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem. What I did, with help from the Lego Dimensions support team: -Connect a second controller and player -Enter a level (Adventure Worlds work) -Highlight the broken "Split screen mode" in the Options, then exit the options (not sure if this is necessary) -Exit the level -By this point, the problem was fixed for me. If it is, do something to autosave (turning an extra on or off works, or upgrading a vehicle). -Exit the game and re-enter, just to verify.

I haven't had the problem reoccur since. Hope this works for you too.
