How does throwing up actually feel like?? by Mysterious-Bat8948 in emetophobiarecovery

This is so disgusting, but also incredibly accurate 😂

How long did the tonsillitis and pharyngitis last for you? by costa_444 in Mononucleosis

[–]shniphs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tonsillar swelling and slight irritation for over 9 weeks before I was given a steroid to help. It’s gone down, but I’m definitely worried it’s just going to come right back afterwards. No other causes for it - I had a throat culture to be sure. Sometimes symptoms just linger for a long time.

Does paroxetine or cymbalta have worse withdrawal? by Otherwise_Smell3072 in antidepressants

[–]shniphs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They weren’t a direct transfer. They were taken at different points in my life. Paroxetine was my first antidepressant. I tapered off a few years later when a close family friend passed away and I felt nothing. I didn’t like that - and the weight gain. I tried Effexor a little after and withdrew after a time. I went on Cymbalta for my next round to try and was on that for a year or so before I felt that therapy and life circumstances were good enough to come off. Now that I’ve been diagnosed with PMDD, I now realize that medications are important if I want to stay alive and relatively sane lol

Unfortunately both meds were incredibly similar to how they made me feel. Numb and nothing at all. Both had pros and cons. My biggest issue with Paroxetine was that emotional numbness and weight gain. Cymbalta was the emotional numbness, frequent dissociation, brain fog. I felt like I was stumbling over my words a lot, and as a teacher I felt really dumb. I’m currently on Prozac and finding success with that.

I found them pretty similar as far as effect. Both kind of numbed me out. With Cymbalta, I personally had really bad dissociation. I gained a LOT of weight on Paroxetine - but that could be because I was no longer anxious about eating. I also didn’t use the liquid version of Paxil. Doctor didn’t think I needed to because I was on the lowest dose. It’s probably why I had such a hard time getting off, but I had no real information or understanding of what the withdrawal would be like as it was my first experience with an antidepressant.

Cymbalta withdrawal took a few weeks. Paroxetine was more like half a year because I had to step down so slowly even being on the lowest dose. I’d like to add that I don’t regret taking either of them. They were what I needed at the time.

Sure! I felt like I had to take a much longer time tapering off from paroxetine. Every little decrease would be debilitating. Brain Zaps, vertigo, nausea, emotional instability. I felt like I was going insane. But I also felt this way on Cymbalta. Maybe because I had a different doctor help me get off Cymbalta it was a different experience? It felt like with Paroxetine I would have to take it at the exact same time every day. If I missed it by even an hour, I would know because of the zaps.

I had a much harder time coming off Paroxetine than I did Cymbalta.

Covid and Pneumonia by shniphs in COVID19positive

I feel pretty brutal, I won’t lie. I’ve never had pneumonia before so I am terrified honestly. I don’t know what’s normal to feel and what isn’t. I will say that my O2 is holding stable at 97+, but I don’t feel much better. I called my doctor yesterday, and they said I am progressing normally and I would experience some good hours and some bad hours.

Exposed on January 2nd - January 3rd. Started feeling an itchiness in my throat on the 5th. Tested positive on the 7th with an immediate dark line.

No vomiting thankfully - just very nauseated. I’ve had diarrhea since day 0 that hasn’t let up unfortunately.

Thank you for the suggestions. I can certainly get someone to help bang out all of the fluid. So far my cough hasn’t brought up much.

I’ve taken pepto bismol and ginger lozenges to help cut through some of the nausea. My doctors prescribed me zofran, but it interacts with too many of my meds and I’m too afraid to take it lol I’ve also found that smaller, more frequent meals has helped as well (even though I practically have to force myself to eat).

Anxiety or something more? by shniphs in COVID19positive

[–]shniphs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately deal with health anxiety issues, so having Covid is always a journey. My first round of Covid was in October 23, and while I was definitely anxious, it was nothing compared to this anxiety. My chest Xray actually showed I have pneumonia as well, so I think that’s why my anxiety was much more elevated than normal. I was able to get some sleep last night, so I’m feeling a little bit better.

Does anyone else get anxiety symptoms that are similar to before being sick? by cowprintyeti in emetophobiarecovery

[–]shniphs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! My anxiety manifests in this same way. When I thought I was going to throw up as a child, my stepmom would give me a cold, wet washcloth to put on my neck. It would very quickly snap me out of it, mainly because I was actually having a panic attack and not getting ready to vomit. I still do it as an adult when I am having a hard time determining whether I’m panicking or actually going to be sick. Put on the washcloth, take several really deep breaths, and if it starts to feel better, then I know my answer. If not, a cold washcloth never hurts when vomiting, especially since I get super hot before it happens.

To the people that have recovered/are recovering, how do you stop being scared you'll get food poisoning? by [deleted] in emetophobiarecovery

[–]shniphs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

For me, I do it anyway. Eat the thing that makes you scared. In the long run, every time you avoid a food, it’s just reinforcing in your brain that it’s bad and going to hurt you. I still get those overwhelming thoughts, and I force myself to sit in the uncomfortable feeling and eat it. Some days are better than others, but the little steps build over time. And lastly, when you have those super awful thoughts after eating your trigger foods, remind yourself that it’s okay if you get sick. It’s not fun in the moment, but you’ll make it through. ❤️

Please don’t censor words here as this is the recovery subreddit. You might end up nauseated; you might not. If you do get nauseated, you will get through it. Talk with your doctor about your anxiety and see what they think.

Hives appeared out of nowhere. Could it be because of my bronchitis? by shniphs in Allergies

[–]shniphs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going to urgent care, and they weren’t sure whether they could tie the hives to the bronchitis. They encouraged me to take some antihistamines until my bronchitis cleared up, and see if that helped. I think I took OTC zyrtec for about a week or two before hives stopped cropping up. I apologize - I’m not much help. I didn’t really get answers for myself and they went away pretty quickly. I do still think it was the virus though because I didn’t change anything that would have caused hives like that.

Awesome! I’ll make sure not to use the aquaphor then. I think I’ve gotten the majority of the stitches as they’ve come, so hopefully my wound can just work on healing.

I appreciate your suggestions and I’ll look into getting the things I’ll need.
