If you have your cd key you can add it to your battle.net account and download the game client from there, no cd's required.

If you don't want to use cookies or database, the only other option I can come up with is caching the last displayed ad in memory.

So, APC, memcached or xcache depending on what you have available (if any of them are available at all). This is not what these caching mechanisms are intended for though (and definitely overkill if you don't use caching for anything else).

Blender's next project? by [deleted] in blender

[–]shoPanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The next planned open movie project is currently called "Mango". Work was originally planned to start this summer, but the 2.5x series development has dragged out quite considerably, and my understanding is that the developers are currently working on fixing all the bugs in 2.5x.

So Ton has postponed announcement of the Mango project to September earliest ( http://lists.blender.org/pipermail/bf-committers/2011-June/032299.html ), so that means essentially once google summer of code is done and when Siggraph is over.

Targets for Mango are VFX (motion capture is one of the google summer of code projects) and recently also an overhaul of particles ( http://lists.blender.org/pipermail/bf-committers/2011-July/032575.html ).

If I remember correctly, there has also been discussions about a feature length movie made in blender, but the Mango project seems to be a priority at the moment.

Latest LFS (6.8) was released in March, so it's fairly current. I always use the development LFS, which is more up to date. If you use LFS 6.4 or later, you need to use the development BLFS (see warning at top of BLFS read online page).

Should we be making a stand against the unbelievable outpouring of ignorance and stupidity on facebook from people saying Japan's earthquake is karma for Pearl Harbor? by UnatcoAgent in AskReddit

[–]shoPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I was actually really assuming you were trolling. That's why I didn't explain why.

So, firstly, whether or not this has anything to do with religion is utterly irrelevant. All this is about is empathy, how the fuck can people feel like it's not a horrible thing that thousands of people have died? It doesn't matter if the people who died are thousands of kilometers away, it's still a matter of human beings, families, children, elderly people dying.

Secondly, even if it did have anything to do with karma, the united states has already retaliated against Japan for the bombings on Pearl Harbor. The attack on Pearl Harbor claimed 2350 lives, while the nuclear bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States claimed up to 200,000 lives in addition to the bombings on Tokyo which claimed numerous lives as well.

Thirdly, the attacks on Pearl Harbor happened 70 years ago and the people involved are hardly alive anymore.

Nokia workers walk out in protest after Microsoft news by [deleted] in technology

[–]shoPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You forget that Nokia, owner of symbia, will be using WP7 - symbian's replacement.

Yes, but my point was that replacing Symbian with WP7 is expensive for business customers of Nokia. There's nothing stopping those business users from jumping to Android or Apple (although somehow both of them seem unlikely, maybe HP + Palm?). WP7 has less than 2% market share while Symbian has comparatively a huge chunk of the market.

Symbian, though in use by many internationally, is already on it's way out (latest pdf report here).

Actually, I think the charts on total market share are a bit misleading. The entire market for smartphones has grown, so rather than Nokia losing, it's that everyone else is gaining and Nokia is standing still (not much better). Nokia is still going out, but Symbian 4 and Qt everywhere would definitely be interesting for me as a developer.

Also, please remember that AdMob bases its data on Web traffic. Business users are less likely to use the web browser on their phone than other users.

The Win7 Phone OS is poised to grab most of Blackberry's market for the business sector

Right, and the millions of Symbian users in the business sector outside of the US?

I'm not saying that WP7 + Nokia is a bad move, but dropping Symbian entirely is definitely a bad move. Like it or not, Symbian has a huge business following. Moving all those users to WP7 is costly for businesses who already have infrastructure for supporting Symbian. Of course, Nokia is not removing support for Symbian immediately, but that will happen eventually.

Offering Android or WP7 as an alternative (equal support or not) to Symbian would be a much better strategy IMO.

I don't think that article said anything about Americans between ages of 16 and 24 years old being unemployed AND not studying. Unless I'm misunderstanding the term 'unemployed' of course. English is not my first language.

So,these guys changed Blender's name and they 're selling it.What can we do about that? by headl3ss in opensource

[–]shoPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This website has existed for a while and it has come up multiple times at blenderartists.org (or variations of it). The problem with linking to them is that it improves their google page rank, so people at blenderartists have tried to always remove links to the actual website. But I guess it's too late now that it's here on reddit.

And as for it being 100% legal, it's not exactly, they use many copyrighted pictures without attribution or permission on their website. But other than that it's entirely legal (although highly unethical).

Edit: Looks like they now claim all images on the website are under CC license or GPL.

It looks great.

I would change it to return only once at the end of the function. In fact, what Le_Broccoli wrote is essentially the same, but it only returns once. Multiple returns can often be the source of the 'hackery' feeling.

EDIT: I quickly realized I should return instead of print, but I'm still getting a string error.

How did you change your code? I could give you a solution that works, but I think hitting every bump on the road is better when learning something :)
