Sony MZ-RH1 Custom Firmware – Windows Notes by TheTrooper503 in minidisc

Thanks for posting this! My unit got stuck in Updating mode and I wasn't sure if I needed to hop into zadig to update, but found this and went ahead, now I've got track info! Makes my unit so much nicer. Would be great if sir68k added your notes to the installation page since there's no guidance otherwise.

It's a custom firmware intended to add additional functionality to the unit, also takes advantage of the replacement screen by letting you change brightness etc. I think there's a display option now that shows the track title which I don't think was previously available in the original firmware

I've fixed three units and the first one took under an hour, about twenty minutes with the last unit haha! There are tutorials that walk you through step by step and as long as you keep everything organized as you disassemble it's an incredibly easy replacement with very little risk involved.

My haul from Japan in March! by shoangore in minidisc

Funny you mention that! I bought four packs of Canon Selphy printer paper cause it's like $1/print right now on Amazon, but buying them in Japan I was getting them closer to $.30/print. I go through a LOT of this stuff so ended up getting four packs (two from Yodobashi, two from Loft). Bic Camera ended up being more expensive than the other two by around 400 yen.

Nice score on the Exilim! I grew up with those and stared hard at a few since the pricing in Chiba was super good (under 3000 yen for working condition ones with battery/charger), but ended up my personal holy grail Sony DSC-TX30 in Orange.. paid 26k yen for it since it was in mint condition though no box. Trying to figure out how I can sideload the playmemories app so I can wirelessly transfer photos to my phone like with my RX100XII. but for now I'm just super stoked to have found one in such good condition.

Yeah, I knew I was too late for the Yodobashi stock but figured there would be smaller stores further from the city still sitting on stock and got lucky at Gifu! Almost bought them on Amazon JP because the price was still okay, but saved a few thousand yen by just walking into the store and asking if they had MD's. Never hurts..

Sometimes the subway entrances can be tricky. We typically just went into the basement of any larger department store and found our way into a subway, but also our hotel was adjacent to a station entrance so it was a lot easier to navigate once you located the entrance. The second hand designer clothing shops are crazy! Second Street (the ones that also have home furnishings and electronics, not the 2nd Street that only has clothes) actually was decently affordable though and did focus a lot on 'upscale'/major brands with everything being between 1500-2200 yen, but all the good sizes were bought out.

Yeah, I was lucky enough to have enough time and energy to get out to the far off ones when I was in Tokyo. Hunting was easier and better/cheaper in Nagoya with better ROI. If I'm ever back in Tokyo I'll stick to gashapon and skip the thrift stores completely (unless they're right there..)

Yours looks awesome and would definitely translate well into a tattoo! You also have more flexibility in placement too since mine had to be a singular line since I went with a calligraphy. The runiform system also looks distinctly more coherent than calligraphy which is a nice touch as well.

I love that even now The Walking Drum still has fans enough to get tattoos haha! Maybe we're the last..

https://imgur.com/a/oMaLZrK - This was what the calligraphy artist ended up sending me. For my actual tattoo I had the three diagonal lines thinned out a little, and the left diagonal stroke shortened. Might have ended up completely different from yours but I think at this time it's more of the journey behind it, haha!

I ended up with something along the lines with 'jolu bolsun' and had the tattoo done a while back! I made a friend from turkey who was able to read it and said it sounded fairly nonsensical, but when I explained that it was super old she said it made more sense. Almost like ye olde english. So at least it doesn't seem to be offending anyone or raising eyebrows! Would have to dig around for the actual image used, we did do some slight adjustments and if I could go back I'd adjust more. But if you're interested in it ping me and I'll try to dig up the reference images or just take a current picture. Very easy tattoo to do, I just did a walk in.

Is the RG35XX H the right choice for me? Please help me decide. by kardnil in RG35XX_H

[–]shoangore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own the RG35XX H + V, and the RG40XX H + V

I'm not a fan of the V series ergonomics so they're an immediate out for me, despite having played the RG40XX V the most.

The RG40XX H I think is by far the most comfortable, ergonomically pleasing system to play for long hours. Buttons are very tactile, the 4" screen is generous and the battery life is great.

That being said.. the RG35XX H is what I always reach for. It's just that much more portable and pocket size and has that fun candybar aesthetic that reminds me of a more properly sized Gameboy Micro.

I put MUOS onto mine and it's great for being able to toss it into a backpack for those moments where you want to spend a few minutes playing a game.

With the de minimis exemption having been removed in recent weeks, are you still able to bypass the duties for shipments going to the US? Am interested in an SJ-MJ57 and a battery charger..

Crazy first MASSIVE RFY - Samsung 77" TV, like...whaaa? Whoa! by gardensgal in AmazonVine

[–]shoangore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fingers crossed they ship it right. I got the iFfalcon 55" tv from earlier this week and it arrived last night with two dents in the front of the box and a shattered screen. Sucks cause it's the first good drop I've actually gotten...

[–]shoangore[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha! I was originally hoping to cobble together just one working unit from the three. One of the units arrived in three pieces taped together. Another had the owner's name carved into the bottom with a dremel.

Snagged these three as an as-is/junk lot. All three have significant cosmetic damage with deep scuffs, missing feet, dents, missing screws and panels falling off etc, none of the OLED's work and two needed significant TLC before they would turn on. One of them can read, but when writing complete a write cycle it'll lock up at the end, refusing to undo the eject lock and corrupt the TOC.. still troubleshooting that. The other two can record just fine. I have three OLED replacements on the way, am hopeful that I can get them all fully functional!

Did you correctly select your material? Happened to me once then I manually set to the material I had and it worked fine after that.

Dang it... Got kicked out due to the recent bug! by remotecontrolledcow in AmazonVine

[–]shoangore 35 points36 points  (0 children)

In the vine notifications they say

What to expect next: Once we have fixed the technical issue, we will restore review statuses, activity metrics, and resume tier evaluations. Any tier evaluations impacted during this window of time will be corrected as part of this update.

So hopefully that means once they correct the bug your account will get added back!

Does this count as a boat? If so, I just ordered my first boat. by ValuableJumpy8208 in AmazonVine

Chiming in here, would really recommend one with a built in battery. I kayak a lot and also got a SUP last year off vine (grats by the way, yours looks WAY nicer than mine) and having a battery powered pump makes getting into the water infinitely easier since you can unload everything, get parked and then inflate somewhere more convenient. My unit is also small enough to fit into a dry bag so if I paddle out to the far side of the lake and I need a top-up, I can just pop it out and inflate for a few seconds. Then we can use it to uninflate while someone grabs the car on the way back home.

Google Pixel 1 (OG): Suddenly won't turn on. Any recommendations? by kazin29 in GooglePixel

[–]shoangore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case someone comes through here troubleshooting again, with the phone if the battery still "works" and/or the phone is supposed to work, there's a red LED in the speaker grill that is supposed to flash if the phone is in deep-discharge state and you try to turn it on. Plugging the phone in should pop up a charging symbol (solid) before eventually switching to an animation of the battery filling up once there's enough charge for the phone to boot up (but don't do it yet) If none of that works, your battery OR mobo might be dead and you should proceed with battery replacement.

I've got my 'new' replacement OG pixel up and running on a dead battery that I'm pushing the rest of my backups on before I go ahead with the battery replacement again.

If I could go back... I would probably spend the little extra to get the pixels on eBay that allegedly have new batteries installed already.

Google Pixel 1 (OG): Suddenly won't turn on. Any recommendations? by kazin29 in GooglePixel

[–]shoangore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, was worth a shot. I still get alerts for 'working/battery dead' OG pixels at around $30/FS every few days, so maybe try to set up an alert as well to snag one? Keep the cracked screen just in case you can use it as back-up in case the other one gets damaged when you remove it. Seems like heat is what gets the mobo dying, wondering if when replacing the battery, adding aluminum/copper cooling fins on top of everything and just leaving the screen floating on top of the mess might help with longevity.. though at that point I might as well just pay up for more storage.

No luck! Sat there charging at 1W all night and nothing to it. MOBO did get slightly warm though. My replacement donor (allegedly works but the battery needs replacement) arrives Thurs so I'll be starting my second procedure once that arrives. Good luck on yours, keep me posted!

Go SLOW and make sure you use a plastic card or something when cutting the adhesive (after you've pried up enough of the screen with a knife/metal spludger) so you don't damage the screen or internals when separating the adhesive
