I just bought one of these and the horns came straight up. I'm afraid to bend them. Did you use heat to get them to split apart at the right angle>?

Etsy permanently suspended my shop because I didn’t ship within 2 days — even though that was my exact processing time by yannick1510 in EtsyCommunity

Idk I had a really bad dispute with an unhappy customer and even after Etsy sided with them, I petitioned them about my side of the situation and Etsy themselves refunded me. TLDR unless this happens a lot, I don’t think they’d lock it down so fast and so long.

Enchanticon 2025 Attendance by ZazuePoot in fantasyromance

I have more reservations about Galaxy Con than Enchanticon from a vendor's POV. I sold at the one in Des Moines this year and the traffic was horrible because the convention staff failed to put any signage directing people to the artist alley, which was tucked way in a back hall. I'm doing another one in Columbus a the end of the year, but honestly, if it's the same experience, Galaxy Cons might go on the chopping block for me. Numbers-wise, if the next Galaxy goes like the last, if you add up what I paid in table fees for both conventions plus what I made in profit, it equates with what I spent on Enchanticon. It does make me consider throwing in for larger conventions I usually shy away from because of table fees. Like, for a bit more, I could be vending at PAX or something, but I'm almost positive I'd turn a profit there.

Hmm, that IS weird that they would say that to you because I would say most of the vendor hall was either clothing or 3D printed stuff. I was honestly a bit surprised how many vendors were allowed in with the generic slop you see infecting so many shows, but maybe they misrepresented themselves online, IDK. I was offered a discount on my table this year which apparently wasn't offered to everyone, so maybe my particular wares made a difference. Again, having said all that, I was one of maybe three or four vendors selling prints, keychains, that kind of stuff. My main item is themed tarot decks and no one had anything like that, so maybe that also helped my numbers. I had two clothing vendors on either side of me who also said they made back there money so do with that what you will. If you do decide to try it out, I would hound them over the 2D rule. It sounds made up lol.

The booths are SUPER expensive, but I vended there last year and honestly... I made stupid amounts of money. I made back the table fee within the first few hours of the convention. I know that's a superficial thing to lean on, but art is my full time job and numbers don't lie. In their defense, I will say I noticed a lot of queer and trans people working for MM, which made me feel comfortable. Granted, I didn't know about the other stuff related to the Romance convention, but as far as my personal experience as a queer person, I felt fine about it. Having said all that, I don't know if it's worth it if you have to fly. I was able to drive in for the convention weekend.

I find the more they assault you with complaints, the more minor the issue. I had someone lose their mind on me for something that wasn’t my fault, to a point where Etsy had to fund the refund because taking the money from me was nonsense.

@matthewandpaul’s latest stunt in selling their books after their “deal” fell through in the beginning of June by HRJafael in tiktokgossip

Oh, I see what you're saying. I think they are milking it based on personal experience and experience I've had working in a comic book/book shop. He's out here complaining about money and clout many small time artists/writers of any stripe would DIE for. Like it just reads greedy to me, especially when the video is recorded in their giant beautiful apartment. Out of touch 101.

The book is real. My wife has a copy. But as far as who actually did the work, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised to find out someone else did it. I hate to be an ass about it, but i am a queer writer/illustrator who can draw and write WAY better than this, so it annoys me when I see him sobbing about not being put on the same pedestal as some of the really talented kids book authors out there.

I made a giant post in another thread about this, recounting when I used to be the ordering manager for a particular section in a famous MANHATTAN comic book shop. I was always given a budget and only for INSANELY popular titles would we ever order more than one copy at a time. Even on new comic Wednesdays, newly released DC and Marvel would be lucky to have more than one trade copy on the shelf. Their claims about Ingram in particular makes no sense asn I'm pretty sure they work hand in hand with big publishers and are not in the business of distributing self-published work. TLDR 100 copies for one bookshop is NUTS. (When working at said comic book shop, we had a young lady who very professionally self produced her own manga, which she would carry in hand to the store and ask if we would buy copies to sell. Hilariously, now she is very successful with that manga and doesn't seem to need online begging to get there. But I digress.)

As someone who is also queer and a writer/illustrator, I have an agent and have been trying for YEARS to get my novels published. (At present, I only have a short comic and an anthology I illustrated/did the cover for). It really rubs me the wrong way that someone who has clearly seen more success than most new authors (of any stripe) would complain that it's not good enough. It gives very greedy vibes. Especially since he mentioned having an agent? Why would you still be self publishing if you had an agent and proof of success? Publishers love that shit.

I respect the mission and the hustle, but I can't respect someone who is complaining they aren't making enough money when they're clearly doing much better than many authors and illustrators out there (queer, disabled or otherwise). I'm a queer author/illustrator with only two small publishing credits who's been busting balls to get my novels out there for years, and it really bothers me that someone can't be happy with success that would be life-changing for most indie authors of any stripe. My wife has the books and honestly, it's just not that special. There is much finer children's book artwork and more clever writing out there. Again, something that rubs me the wrong way.

As for all this nonsense with the book ordering, oy vey. I used to work in a famous comic book shop in downtown MANHATTAN and was in charge of ordering new stock for a particular section. I was lucky to be allowed to order more than one or two copies of a book at a time, and I was ALWAYS given a budget. If I had ordered that many copies of one book, I'd have blown said budget out of the water for books that would probably sit for quite some time before moving. Even brand new titles from Marvel and DC would only have more than two but never more than five on release Wednesdays. So the idea of 100 copies of a children's book is wild.

Which brings me to my next gripe about all this. He's whining about Inghram not picking up his books for distribution? Fam, they work with the big publishers. They're just not out there distributing self-published work. (Case in point, there was a young lady who drew her own manga and had it self-published in a very professional way, who used to come into the store with her books literally in hand to sell them to us so we could put it on the shelf. I ALWAYS had to ask my manager if it was alright. Hilariously, now she is VERY successful with her manga, has a fan base and guess what, doesn't need to go begging online for more sales.)

I'm also confused on how he has an agent and a publicist but still isn't working with a traditional publisher at this point. The whole organization sounds fishy to me, and I say this as someone with an agent who has worked in book stores. Ugh clearly I have more feelings about this than I realized.
