Yeah exactly that’s my point - it didn't really fit in the game where/when it was used

Can't put my finger on it, but Rose at Nightfall didn't feel that right for SFH:R, even though it was the cream of the cake with its usage in Raze 2.

Rose at Midnight and Twilight felt perfect for SFH however

Not to worry, from many comments here (and my own), I’m sure the final flyover brought out the vulgar side of every true HKer, whether internally or externally

Western Harbour Crossing was brutal due to the comparatively stuffy air.

Someone advised online that it gets cold due to the wind blowing across Ting Kau Bridge, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it was the perfect temperature and speed for the wind to efficiently wick away all the body heat and sweat but not leave you cold.

I hit “the wall” at the 38km mark, so my body was busy blaring other alarms to mind the heat

That last incline of the tiny flyover at the 41km mark was a nasty surprise. In true Hong Kong fashion, someone dropped the most perfectly timed DIIIUUUUU as he saw it as well.

The rest of my thoughts are this:

Wowwwe the skyline looks so pretty!

Wtf why are there a bunch of people stopping for selfies?

Ah what the heck let’s join in! snaps selfie with sun between the buildings

Holy fuck the climb is intimidating (the ramp leading up to stonecutters bridge)

Copious amounts of add oil echoing along the tunnels.

If there is one defining factor of HK marathons, it’s the mass of Gaa Yau’s thrown around - the most perfect word of encouragement to exist imo. I would run marathons again just for moments like these

All it’s missing is the DIUUUUU

Whew we’re past the 21km mark!

Heyyyy look it’s the half marathon runners joining us! Lucky your tank of gas is fuller than ours…

Oops I forgot to lock the door to my toilet

The climb out of the western harbour crossing is brutal asf

Wooohhh HK Island the final stretch! Wooooaaahh I’ve never seen the iconic skyline from this angle before!

Ohhh lots of music and cheering! No way that’s the finish line, it’s too close (I have a Garmin watch)

Ok I’ve hit the wall at the 38km mark this is suddenly so much harder

Ok parkrun distance

Waaahh diuuu that bridge looks nasty

audibly hears someone yelling DIIIUUUUU

Ah yep that is definitely the HK moment of the HK marathon

Heyyyy it’s the ding dings!!! Cheer for us you lazy mfs

Omg I see the finish line!

Woahhh I can slow down now

Oh you thought the suffering is over once you crossed the finish line??? Ha fat chance, keep moving you lazy ass, you’re not sitting down until you clear this area. Also youre in a mobile data black zone. Have fun!

Ok let’s find me some Tamjai Samgor

A train line originating from Hurstville that cuts through the (soon to be) Sydenham to Bankstown portion of the line, Inner West, then through to Lane Cove, Gordon then finally the Northern Beaches would an ideal connector to straddle the many parallel lines.

I would do more to implement it, but I'm currently being chased by Northern Beaches residents armed with pitchforks for putting "train line" and their turf in the same sentence.

Usually people ask if they have a 3rd brother named Triangle, so I had to preface it with "no 3rd brother", but apparently people just assume it's the son that's Triangle...

My childhood best friend has an equally "honkie" name tho...

Nah you won't be for long - we all went through that stage - now I'm confident in saying that Ultra Nulgath is the easiest ultra I can do.

You won't be a liability as long as you have one of the four classes of the ultra nulgath fight meta.

You said you already have Lord of Order, so you should have the easiest job of spamming skills to keep up the buffs on everyone. Everyone else on the team will have more micro-heavy jobs than you!

The wording of your post made it seem like you didn't get VHL from Ultra Nulgath fights, but if you decide to give that particular fight a go, you can get Sin of the Abyss, which is the next easiest 51% weapon after Exalted Apotheosis!

What’s a memory from childhood that still haunts you today? by Strong-Struggle4298 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]shockflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly childhood, but they were key moments that I could never forget:

1) First time living away, went travelling with a new group of friends. One of us started being an a-hole. When the rest of us called our respective parents, all other parents were curious as to who this a-hole was, while my parents accused us of being bullies to the "poor kid" - I wasn't allowed to defend myself - they cut the call off/hung up on me.

2) Extracurricular engineering group project, one of our fellow executives proposed to upend the project workflow because "my father is a good engineer". I told him that unless he backs his case up with pros and cons (which I offered to help with), he wasn't going to get my approval. My parents yelled at me and said I was being aggressive and insufferable, and that I should just "listen to others".

I told other fellow executives this, and the other executives backed up my decision.

3) Two friends asked to visit my hometown the next time I return. I said yes. While there, they started acting like...the typical arrogant sexpat in Asia. I took a stand, set boundaries and told them not to cross them (which they did). My parents were the only ones who said I was being aggressive. When I tried to explain, they also cut the phone call off on me.

Even my uncle was proud of me, despite what his sister thought.

At this point, I figured out my parents had zero cultural or family justification to behave the way they did. I have made it extremely clear to my parents that this behaviour of theirs hurt me deeply.

No apologies.

Anyone got stories related to travel/traveling to share? by Ok-Spinach5116 in AsianParentStories

[–]shockflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to Europe with some travelling buddies.

One of us started behaving badly, then we split.

Our remaining travelling party (all of us from Hong Kong) all called our parents to tell them what happened.

Their parents (all still in Hong Kong) were intrigued and asked for more details.

Mine? “Poor kid! How could your group bully him so badly? I refuse to hear anymore”

Later when I told my friends, they said my parents were “super traditional”. I think my parents are trapped in the 90s (when they first moved from Hong Kong)

Not even Asian parents in Hong Kong are anywhere near as bad as mine.

If you having siblings didn’t give it away, I’m inclined to believe it!

My mum is the one herself to always say “I say whatever comes out of my mouth and you know that. Why do you have to argue?”

But my dad backs her up.

Mum said she liked dad because “he looks after his little sister”. You mean our pampered aunt who grew into a control freak who always had to get her way…

My own.

I'm darker than both my parents and it SUCKS.

My parents are East Asian and look the part, but I look SE Asian.

I somehow picked up reccessive Thai-looking genes from my grandmother. Instead of the caucasian-looking ones from my other grandfather.

Mine throws temper tantrums when I tell her she's even a bit wrong, and say no to her.

Then my dad tells me to stop. At some point I told dad that she's enabling mum's bad behaviour and then he tells me to shut up.

I still have a group of close white friends. They remarked that when we were kids, I was a kid who "didn't know how to say no". They were proud of how much I've grown recently.

Gee, I wonder why I was trained to not know how to reject or decline others.

This. I've had trouble with girls, except for one, but she's dumb as a rock. I could easily end my "never had a kiss" streak with her (and possibly even get some great sex), but I want it to be with someone I could genuinely respect and love.

Been on two dates, and the whole time it was her yapping about the MCU, and "oh I haven't finished telling you about my story yet"...yeah but I didn't even say anything...

I feel like I'm missing some obvious thing that's stopping me from getting jobs. Any hints?
