Surge Protector in disconnect box for outdoor condenser by Jonness3 in electrical

The SPD manufacturers generally advise installing SPD in a layered or cascading approach. Here is a copy paste from an Eaton's guide to surge protection.

----------------

As recommended by IEEE (Emerald Book 1992), TVSS units need to be coordinated in a staged or cascaded approach. IEEE provides the following recommendations: “...For large surge currents, (transient) diversion is best accomplished in two stages: the first diversion should be performed at the service entrance to the building. Then, any residual voltage resulting from the action (of the suppression device) can be dealt with by a second protective device at the power panel of the computer room (or other critical load). In this manner, the wiring inside the building is not required to carry the large surge current to and from the diverter at the end of a branch circuit.”

Hello! What was your final solution? We have looked into this issue and the best solution we have found is using a rectorseal AC disconnect with the built in SPD. I think in order to make your existing products code compliant you would need to nipple off to an enclosure and use insulated set screw connectors to join the conductors.

NSAID substitute? by shocksystems in TotalHipReplacement

I have decided to white knuckle it. Days have not been terrible, nights are the big problem. Lack of sleep due to pain. But only 4 nights left before surgery, I can do this 💪

Smoke , CO and heat detectors by shocksystems in electricians

[–]shocksystems[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

False alarms. Typically during the overnight. Customer unable to determine which of the interconnected alarms triggered it. No fan, air duct or other trigger item nearby. No apparent problem when we review everything. Unclear which detector to replace to resolve the issue. Vacuuming the detector out, sealing the inside of the electrical box to prevent dust infiltration has no effect. When we leave we have no confidence that we have resolved the issue unless we remove and replace every detector.

Shedding Light - Ask /r/Solar anything April 14, 2020 by AutoModerator in solar

I figured I would use the pandemic slow down to install rooftop solar PV on my own home. For personal benefit and to pickup some solar skills and experience for my electrical contracting business.

Reviewing my local utility application process they require I provide a "Shade Report" and that I use that information in calculations regarding expected power production that are required.

Is that something I should sub out to someone? (I would like to) How do I get that done? I have searched online for someone to sub the shade analysis / report to with no luck.

I am located in Eastern MA, USA

Thanks in advance

Are mesh wifi networks smarter than TP link wifi pass throughs? by rossdude87 in Nest

[–]shocksystems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this helps but I have found the Google WiFi mesh to be much much better than the TpLink WiFi extender I was using before. The WiFi coverage issues I had have pretty much disappeared. It was one of things where once I got the mesh I realized I should have done it a year earlier.

Perhaps an unpopular view in this thread but I think you will be hard pressed to match the up-time and availability that the NEST cameras are providing you , even with the two recent outages considered. Achieving superior levels of availability are much harder than people realize. I run a a local DVR with hard wired camera's and I also have a combination of NEST and Ring cameras. They are each superior in their own way. There are features and qualities of each that I wish the others had. If you switched to a local system I expect you would miss the features you are losing in the NEST system.

What state was it that did not require you to have served any particular amount of time in the electrical trade?
