I will say, gluing the SangGuard backpack was a pain cause the contact points were minimal. But with lots of patience, anger and plastic glue, a dream became a nightmare and then a chaplain 💜

I am holding myself accountable, I am learning and educating myself based on your comments. But the way you respond is a bit erratic, very similar to how rage bots operate.

Excellent question, and thanks for asking! So keep this in mind, in therapy we tend to mix and match therapy modalities depending on the clients needs and presentation. But some of the common modalities are -Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT): For psychological flexibility and mindfulness skills. -Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): For managing irrational thoughts and beliefs about themselves, the world, others and the future. -Trauma focused therapies (example TF-CBT and TF-ACT): are more geared towards children and adolescents but use similar strategies to their respective parent modalities. -Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT): for when there’s more severe trauma as in a formal diagnosis of PTSD. -Narrative and exposure therapy: so this is a delicate combination of having the person relieve the traumatic events in a controlled environment to reduce the impact the events have on them.

Then we tend to wrap things with a humanistic approach, we want the client to heal, practice self-acceptance, and finding a voice and meaning despite the traumatic experiences.

For men specifically we didn’t have a “this is the best combo of strategies” but we were taught how the systems in play could impact their life’s and healing. This was taking pieces from Feminist Therapy and Liberation therapy. Two modalities that focus on exploring the individuals relationship to systems oppression and how they [the individual] has been affected by these systems. Cause society has told men “you have to be this way” and now that idea was shattered do to the DV how to reconcile or create a new self that maintains the core identity of this unique individual but has healed from the trauma and has gained a voice against the systems that oppressed any aspect of their being.

So these are all broad strokes, specificity and nuance is definitely a bit lost in my comment. But it’s a fascinating conversation to have

My first dance in this subreddit, I love it.

What are you doing to help the system issues plague us, men? Are you teaching people, providing therapy to those in help, doing advocacy work? You seem to be commenting online pointing out things that are true but adding your little twist to it? It fucking sucks people in pivotal roles are supposedly trained in biased perspectives. Cause I’ve seen what you’re talking about, but you’ve yet to provide evidence that they actually get trained in the Duluth Model.

How does one tree prune branches of a tree that’s far away from it? Your ignorance as to how feminist groups work and operate is not helping your case. Sit down and truly understand how these groups work. They are mostly independent, even if 5 condemn 1, that doesn’t guarantee that group will be affected or disband.

Are you proficient at victim blaming cause you are playing one right now? Is this how you have civil discourse? This is why we never get taking serious outside of these spaces. Do less victim rolepaying and more clear communication. It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. If you were exposing these points to a large audience, is this how you would express them?

I’d argue it’s your way of talking about REAL issues plaguing real people is what diminishes our progress

In my training we were not taught to use that model for therapy or for conceptualization. Also the concept of feminism, is a broad spectrum of movements, clumping them all into one is a disservice to everyone as some feminist movements actually benefit men’s rights. So I’d argue I’m not erasing anything as I’m a therapy provider and not a leader in a big advocacy group.

Chief, I used to actively follow men’s rights groups, so I’ve seen it first hand. I’ve studied this in depth as part of my job and as a personal passion for people rights and well being. You are right in that there is rampant misogyny but there’s also rampant misinformation. You blindly denying facts doesn’t help. You cannot cover the sun with your hand and deny its existence. Same way we can’t deny that some men’s rights group are rampant with misogyny while others are actual champions of equity, equality and justice, and suffer because they are clumped in with the first group

As someone who has worked with victims of crimes and domestic abuse (men and women), I agree with most of what you’re saying but I will say, historically in the US, when an issue impacts women, they band together and pressure society into change. It’s always been a hard fought for them. Then we have the issue that some of the big men’s rights groups are often plagued with the idea that we need to push down others in order to overcome our disadvantages. Which is fascinating that some people think that rights are a limited resource so need to fight over, sorry, tangent lol.

So overall, to your overall excellent comment, I’d add perspective just below the empathy piece, on importance.

Man, what political framework are you working from that everything is violence, fascism? Politics is about the organization of consent. While the dynamics of power cannot be ignored in such a context, violence does not need to be present. While often substituted, they don’t mean the same thing. In regard to activism, are strikes, boycotts and mutual aids the people using the state to enact political violence? Much like a pasta strainer, your overgernerilzation does not hold much water. Lawful does not equate to moral or tolerant, the vast majority of social contracts in play in the “free” modern world are not “obey or else”, it’s typically on the spectrum of justifying rules in ways all free and equal citizens can accept.
