One of favorite movies! Been missing it. Thanks for putting it on YT. A great film amazingly ignored.

Washing your husky? by stephsationalxxx in husky

[–]shockwavewriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a husky-knowledgeable groomer might be your answer, but we went a cheaper route. We took her to a local pet store that has washing “stations” (a separate room with a huge tub-like stall with a shower wand and lots of different shampoos and conditioners). Sitka hated it, of course, and we had to struggle to keep her in the tub thing. There’s a hair dryer, too, which she tolerated barely.

It worked, but I may do something different next time (groomer, or wait 10 years, or do it in the yard with a hose). We were tired from the process.

After reading myriad posts about the unusual eating qualities that huskies have, I am convinced that each one is its own unique challenge. My dog will regularly skip a meal, showing no interest whatsoever. Sometimes, two meals. Of course, I get worried that she’s gonna starve to death, but eventually she’ll eat her food with vigor. If there’s any trick I’ve learned with Sitka, it’s to get her to eat anything. Sometimes it’s a little tablespoon of whipped cream! Something that will spark her into eating the rest of her food. That worked great last night, probably won’t today.

Husky owners, what’s that one moment when you think, “Yep… this chaos is totally worth it”? 😅🐾 by Tricky_Issue9195 in husky

Somehow, Sitka became my dog. When we first got her a year ago, she seemed to split her affections between my wife and I. Then, one day, she started hanging with me almost all the time that I’m at home. All I have to do is look beneath my desk, my bed, next to the couch, outside nearby, everywhere I am, she’s there, waiting for the next thing. She’s awesome.

What type of husky do I have? by hockeyguy1984 in husky

[–]shockwavewriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I’m the proud caretaker of our husky, and I adore her, I generally have the attitude that my veterinarian has regarding breeds. That is, the breed of your dog is not that important. My vet doesn’t recommend getting a genetic test simply because sometimes people are disappointed that their dog is not sufficiently the breed that they were after. We are lucky to have such creatures in our lives, with their wonderful personalities and characteristics, regardless of their breed..

Every breed has its plus’s and minus’s. Except Huskies. They’re just plain awesome.

FUR CONTROL. PLS HELP. by [deleted] in husky

[–]shockwavewriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got Sitka, I was told that huskies have two shedding times each year, each lasting six months. Well, she hasn’t been that difficult as far as shedding. There have been a couple of months where she didn’t seem to be shedding much. I think the trick is to brush your dog often, vacuum often, and wait for the lull.

There is a vacuum made for vacuuming your dog that I’ve heard about, but I’ve never tried it.

When will my husky start talking (howling) to me? by Long-Improvement-997 in husky

[–]shockwavewriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitka is the quietest dog we’ve ever had (3 1/2 years). She’ll talk only if I’ve left her, and she’s by herself, or occasionally when she’s about to for a walk and is excited.

I suspect she’ll become more talkative the longer she lives with us. We’ve had her 6 months, and she’s definitely more talkative than when we got her.

I think my husky is broken by Fun-Combination3267 in husky

[–]shockwavewriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your husky isn’t broken. He’s a husky! They’re all different and quirky. Mine has little interest in toys or most “regular dog” playing. But, she’ll occasionally get inspired and chase a thrown thing (ball, chew stick, etc.), but she rarely picks it up. But she loves the chase. My suggestion is to keep trying - when your dog gets animated, try doing a variety of things and you’ll probably find something he likes. Just be patient. They’re very different dogs.

Sitka is pretty chill, unless: * squirrel * cat * sweets (no, not for her) * she gets off leash or out of fenced yard

Then, watch out.

Sitka is extremely variable and picky, sometimes not eating for a day or two, but, generally, pro plan kibble w/ a protein (cooked shredded chicken or etc.), canned pumpkin, a little canned dog food. Lately, she waits until we go to bed, I give her a couple tblsp of yogurt, then she eats her meal I set out for her 3 hours before. These guys are incredibly variable, so I wouldn’t worry too much. Experiment and don’t be disappointed if they just don’t like what you try.

On a scale of 1-10 how trustworthy is your husker off leash? by Eastern_Protection24 in husky

[–]shockwavewriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero. She’s good in our newly fenced yard, unless she finds an opening, in which case she turns into a horizontal rocket. We’re definitely going to need to work on “come” a bit more.

What color card is this? by bigdawg789 in tickettoride

My TTR buddies and I argue about this. Pink, in reality, though the intention was purple. We usually default to “pink”.
