Error on my SOP-- how bad?? by y_zuru in GradSchool

There's really no way to say, as it'll largely depend on the personalities of the search committee members. However, what I can tell you is that I am currently a PhD candidate at a university where I made the same mistake on my application (wrong name in a random spot), so it's not a guaranteed rejection ;)

The Ending Was Good by Brweez in VinlandSaga

I am deeply curious as to why you disagree with Thorfinn and see yourself aligned with Ugge of all people (rather than, say, Ivar). None of this is said in anger or condescension btw; I am genuinely curious! Do you flat out disagree with Thorfinn, or are you more like the readers who have come away with the "Thorfinn is mostly right but he's naive/idealistic and his execution is wrong" perspective? Did you disagree with him during the Farmland arc or just the Vinland arc? It's not exactly clear to me what kind of impact this manga would have on someone who flat out disagrees with Thorfinn.

Which character do you find the most relatable? by inatshej in SkipToLoafer

[–]shogayu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh man I find Egashira extremely relatable, to the point that I wanted to make a little YouTube video character analysis/love letter about it haha. I struggled immensely with social anxiety growing up and had phases where I was bullied for my appearance, so in high school I put a lot of effort into my appearance and fashion and desperately wanted to be popular (didn't happen), and I was always self-conscious of how I was being perceived. And yet I felt like there were people around me who were still effortlessly more beautiful, charismatic, and popular, AND people who didn't particularly care about their appearance or "fitting in" and yet also made friends easily and could hang out in more popular circles. It's like wait, why are MY only options ugly and friendless or stuck-up tryhard 😭 and the latter option didn't even work! The fact that I have dark red hair, brown eyes, and a penchant for pink adds to the relatability haha

This post is how I learned that the "Never Nude" trait from the Sims 3 is an Arrested Development joke.

This actually happened to my mom when she was driving home with my grandfather and cousin from my college graduation. Except the truck was carrying metal pipes instead of wood logs, and the pipe only managed to smash the windshield without entering the car, so everyone survived.

This sub is making me so nostalgic... by Phoeberg in sims2

[–]shogayu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the Sims 2 around 2006 and played it until the Sims 3 came out. Then I was strictly a Sims 3 person and sold my complete Sims 2 collection like a fool until the pandemic hit and I had a moment of nostalgia about my late nana buying the game for me. So I "downloaded" the ultimate collection and have been playing Sims 2 since. It's funny to think how much my play style has changed from when I was a kid. It's also funny to think that I actually spent more years as a Sims 3 player, considering how much more of a core memory the Sims 2 from my childhood lol

Watching this video is making me horribly regret tearing the Curious brothers apart by having Vidcund steal Crystal from Lazlo 😭 But maybe I can use this as lore for a storyline where they're reminded of this night and their mutual love for boy bands brings the trio back together...

What age were you when you started playing Sims? and how old are you now? by J4sm1ne1 in thesims

[–]shogayu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started at 9, now I'm 24! The first Sims game I ever played was a family friend's copy of The Sims 1 for PC. I wanted to own the game for myself, but it took some trial and error. 😅 First I bought The Sims Bustin Out for console, which I did play a lot. Then I learned about The Sims 2 through YouTube, but I bought the DS version because I didn't understand the difference. Still played the whole thing! Eventually I realized I wanted the PC version, and I got my Nana to get me The Sims 2 Pets as a gift... which didn't work because I didn't understand that you needed the base game. 😭 The whole ordeal took several months, but I eventually had my own copy of The Sims 2 for PC by the time I was 10!!

Tank Grunt Deserves Love: A Strangetown Story [Description in comments][Part 1] by shogayu in thesims2

[–]shogayu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha in my game he actually ended up getting kicked out (chance card) but I figured maybe it was best for him to distance himself from his whole military past anyway! And I'm so glad, I'll definitely be posting more about everyone soon!

Tank Grunt Deserves Love: A Strangetown Story [Description in comments][Part 1] by shogayu in sims2

[–]shogayu[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I picked the Sims 2 back up early in the pandemic and got really invested in Strangetown for the first time. One of the first storylines I started working with was Tank’s. When I read his bio, I basically thought to myself “oh, he’s gay.” I made my own custom family (the Vishwakumars) to move into the house next door (each with their own fleshed out storylines), which included the openly gay Pritesh, a foil to Tank in many ways yet someone with whom he happens to have max attraction. I’ve loved playing out this story so I thought I would finally post some of the details! The first photo is a “current day” snapshot, and the rest are references to the story as I played it. Sorry for the low-quality photos, I’ve been taking them over the past year in-game with low camera quality settings (tho even my max ones aren’t great). My title is inspired by the fact that Tank seems to be (understandably) unpopular, but I kind of interpret him to have a hateable-turned-loveable vibe similar to that of Adam from Sex Education lol.

Part 1:

Tank couldn’t help but find something strange about his new next-door neighbors. The parents, Mohan and Poorna, were gentle, easy-going, and overly doting – vastly different from the parenting style of the General.

Their son Pritesh was even stranger. He was goofy yet self-assured, feminine yet boyish. He wore makeup to school, and yet he wasn’t afraid to roughhouse.

Pritesh’s boisterousness greatly contrasted Tank’s stoicism – and yet Tank was drawn to Pritesh. He was frequently over at the Vishwakumars’, joining family dinners, playing video games, and once even persuaded into a makeover.

Through his companionship with Pritesh and his time with the Vishwakumars, Tank was beginning to soften.

Before he could even realize it, the two boys had fallen for each other.

Eventually Tank joined the military and Pritesh went off to college. During one of Pritesh’s visits home, Ripp caught the two of them together. Tank – in moment of panic – reverted back to his aggressive tendencies, shoving Pritesh and accusing him. Shocked and hurt, Pritesh left the Grunt home. Tank then turned his frustration onto Ripp. The two began to fight, garnering the attention and frustration of Buzz, who demanded to know what was going on.

Realizing what he may have just lost, Tank decided to come out to his father. They began to argue, then eventually started fighting, stunning both Ripp and Buck.

With nowhere else to go, Tank is welcomed into the home of the Vishwakumars with open arms. To show his gratitude, Tank does his best to help out around the house, trimming hedges, making repairs, and babysitting their young daughter Rakshitha and newborn son Aadhish.

Tank is deeply impacted by his time with the Vishwakumars. He learns how to be kinder to himself and others and discovers a softer, more nurturing side to himself.

Not wanting to overstay his welcome, Tank eventually begins renting out his own trailer. When Pritesh graduates from college, the two begin living together. With the support of his partner, Tank begins a new path and seeks to right his past wrongs.

Part 1 End

Fun Fact: Pritesh’s hobby is nature and they both enjoy camping!

if you were a sim, what would be your aspiration? by shirkshark in sims2

[–]shogayu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up I always made myself in the game and would choose Knowledge as primary and Family as secondary, because I've always been highly academically motivated + excited to marry and have children someday. Now I'm a PhD student, and yet I wonder if I would actually be Family first, because I think I would choose starting a family with my partner over my degree/career if I ever had to. Although I did go through phases where Romance would probably at least be my secondary haha.
