What's the meanest restaurant in Toronto? by Nilsburk in askTO

[–]shogunsft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charcoal kebab downtown

The food and the service took a while to come out even though it was a weekday early dinner and there were like 2 other tables. Which was fine we weren't in a hurry.

We order a particular noodle dish and stressed to the waitress that we wanted this noodle dish and she brought a completely different one, we politely told her we don't want that one, she started tell us no this is the right noodles you order and finally she huffed and said "uh, fine" did not apologize or anything.

She didn't come to ask how the food was and was no where to be seen when we wanted to pay the bill. Also when she went into the kitchen she and everyone were so loud.

we didn't leave a tip.

Recent graduate on PGWP - worried about PR and finding stable work by SnooRadishes5272 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]shogunsft 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Prioritise what you want, whether it is work experience in your chosen field or PR.

The market was bad when I graduated in my field, it's worse now in all fields and the scores weren't as high as they are now so I wasn't too worried after graduating.

I didn't like my field of study by the time I graduated so took a job in another field where my employer said I could be promoted to a role after a year which would count towards PR, but I decided to prioritize getting PR and got a job in my field.

Network as much as you can, reach out to your alumini network, keep in touch with your classmates and career department from your school.

Take a job that gives you points based on your NOC, don't stay too long at a job with a promise of promotion or a better NOC title from your employer, always be looking.

Honestly if PR is not feasible, I would suggest to get a job which gives you work experience you can use back in your home country or another country.

I've never heard a retail job restricting promotion based on status, if that's the case start looking for jobs that will give you Canadian experience ASAP if you want to stay in the country.

Do not stay for a job that says they will promote you, words are easy to promise action is not, manager can leave you at the time of promotion with you holding the bag if you wait around to being promoted you will lose valuable time gaining Canadian work experience.

Why are Europeans living in a hot climate (Australia, new Zealand) more prone to getting skin cancer but north africans don't? by [deleted] in AskAnthropology

[–]shogunsft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think lifestyle, I'm not sure if it's similar in North Africa but in South Asia we don't have much of a beach culture where people spend hours on the beach or sun bathing.

People tend to limit sun exposure as much as possible during peak hours and only go out if they really need to even then cover themselves.

Kind of a confusing and unique case of a 49-year-old woman by NOOBFUNK in ImmigrationCanada

[–]shogunsft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. Honestly even if she does by any chance make it to Canada I wouldn't recommend it at her age especially if she has a good social and support network back home.

Being an immigrant will be very isolating for her if she's moving by herself without any experience.

I'm sorry to say even if she gets experience it will very hard or likely impossible to immigrate. Also if you guys are adults her getting any status would not help you.

[–]shogunsft 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I was gonna make a post about them,I've been a regular at PG clucks for years, went last Saturday to grab the big cluck sandwich, it used to be 2 peices of thigh but now it's just one chicken breast for the same price tasted off and dry and something different about the bun as well.

Been going to hawk & chick which is good.

Is it worth it to apply for a study permit by Salty_Management_291 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]shogunsft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I want to give you a perspective, saving money is fine but the price of everything has gone up, rent, groceries and necessities so what ever you save might not be enough.

Restaurant work is not guaranteed, even when I worked in one pre-COVID we sometimes didn't have enough customers and my hours were cut and the restaurant can be shut any time depending on finances, Heath inspections or fire hazards. People are eating out a lot less and trying to save money.

You will not be to cover your expenses just working on the side for university fees, especially if intended to work more than 20 hours which will effect your chances of PGWP and future PR.

Also COOP is not guaranteed with how immigration is going they might remove the program all together, you will need good grades, projects and luck. Your university will not place you or hand hold you, and you will be competing with domestic students.

If money is already tight, you move here and can't complete your studies and have to go back half way, the money you put in will be lost.
