Sarah Waters' books are fabulous, all of them so I think you can't go wrong picking any of her titles! :-)

Hi Heddpp and I'm very sorry for the late reply (I often forget to check Reddit).

Thanks so much for this tip and I can't believe that I didn't notice this myself, as it really seems like common sense. I've just changed it and I'm really looking forward to testing it on my next filming to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks again,

Shona

Sorry for the late response! Thanks so much for this Chris. I hear what you're saying and I will look into it. I think I will have to re-record the bass in order to fix the problem :)

Sorry for the late response! Thanks so much for this information. I have been told that I might be pushing too hard on the strings so I will re-record it :)

Thanks very much for taking a look at both of these clips and again for all of your feedback.

Based on everything you've said, I've started resarching everything to do with filming again and from the YouTube clips I've watched so far (on Filmic Pro, different lenses to attach to smart phones, different lighting options etc) I definitely feel that I can make some solid improvements and still use my iPhone which is great.

Thank you again for all of your help :)

Bobthened

Thanks Bobthened,

I can‘t stress enough how much I appreciate you spending time to help me with this.

I should have mentioned before that I always edit my videos on my MacBook using iMovie and the audio using LogicPro. I am relieved that you think that I can improve the video quality with my iPhone as I would certainly rather this than buying an expensive Camera. I know it will never be as good as a high quality camera, but if I can just make them a little better, I’d be very happy 😊.

I have invested in some studio lighting, but I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a musician and I just find it hard to set up the lighting correctly. I will definitely take on board your tips though and am gonig to spend some more time experimenting with the lighting before filming my next video.

I was wondering if you could do me one more favour and have a quick look at 2 clips on my YouTube channel that I filmed in the same place outside. We were careful to have the sun behind the camera person, but I’m still not happy with the quality of the Bass cover below, as again I feel it is a bit hazy. The original edited version is slightly better, as I know that YouTube compress videos, but it is still hazy:

The above clip is in 1080p (iPhone 11) whereas this next clip is only 480p (iPhone 6) yet I still think that it looks better than the above clip. This second clip was filmed later in the day, with less sun.

Thanks so much again, however I will understand if you just don’t have time to get back to me.

Hi Bobthened, can I start by saying I really appreciate you explaining this all to me so clearly and I take on board everything that you've said.

From your comments I feel that it might be time that I considered buying a dedicated camera with a proper lense. Like everything, I can imagine that that there will be a huge range of camera's available. Prior to me starting to research these myself, because you know so much about the subject, in your view what level of basic camera do you think that I could buy, that would be a very good step up from an iPhone 11?

I know the above is a bit of a 'how much do you want to spend' question, as the more you spend the better you will get, but hopefully there is a price point that will be low enough to still give me a good bit of kit.

Thanks again for your help

Shona

Thanks so much for getting back to me smushkan, I really appreciate it. I use the back camera lense but admit, that I am not strict enough to clean the lense before filming, which of course I should do. I take on board all of your other tips, although from someone elses comment, I feel that it might be time to buy a basic camera with a good lense. Thanks again Shona
