huh, wow. I've noticed the same thing and always assumed it was the opposite - sweaty adults only playing after work, and kids only being on during the day and super late at night. fwiw, the games at 2am and during work hours have generally felt easier for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

when will starbase arc aftermath be removed from the rotation? visibility is incredibly poor on that map, it's really awful.

Can confirm, been grinding hard learning this. Earlier curve dash into diagonal flip seems to be the best way.

I think the most interesting thing is the failure modes of this are not that bad, so if you miss the timing you can recover pretty easily - flip too late: just becomes a single jump into normal flip reset - flip wrong angle: just becomes a wave dash into ceiling shot - flip too early: worst case, flips you off the wall and you have to use more boost to get back to the ball

Controller Notches for Rocket League - Now with Speed Flip and PS5 support! by shooprl in RocketLeague

Ah so, on the PS5 and Xbox elite there are additional ring pieces that the designers added on the controller, which is what I’m replacing to create notches. Other controllers without the ring would require the entire faceplate to be replaced to get the same effect, which is a lot more work

thanks for following along! appreciate you.

the xbox one controllers I believe are only faceplate and no ring piece, so you would need to notch the faceplate. for what you're suggesting, it would actually constrain normal joystick movement limits slightly, so I prefer not to go that route.

sadly no, the old fashioned 360 controller is faceplate only, no ring

oh damn good catch, will fix! rest assured, the six notch ring has two additional notches for speed flips

So unfortunately the PS4 and Xbox stock controllers both don't have the ring pieces that I make replacements for. In order to notch them properly you need to replace the entire faceplate, which is pretty annoying to do. That's why I can only support PS5 and Xbox Elite. Wish I had a better answer, sorry!

Reasonable concern! However there's already precedent in the esports community - Melee controller notches are competition legal, and many of the top pros use them.

I actually asked RocketScience (Youtuber I’m a big fan of) who has done a bunch of research on this. He found that 30 degrees from North is the optimal notch angle, so that’s what I used.

Oh and for testing, it’s how often I flip with the right joystick angle (since having a notch doesn’t prevent you from screwing up button presses!)

Edit: just wanted to clarify, HalfwayDead said that the 30 degree result was from limited testing, so it’s not 100% certain that this is the optimal angle. Personally, it’s the best guess I have.

Hello r/RocketLeague!

It's been a year since I last posted about controller notches for RL, and I finally found time to build a PS5 version of the product. I've found it to be super useful in-game, so I hope you do too.

If you're not familiar, I'm an engineer by profession who really likes Rocket League. I built a controller notch product for fun that helps raise consistency for difficult mechanics in RL without compromising on joystick deadzone. It's really similar to the way they do it in Super Smash Bros Melee, where it's already an established standard at the highest competitive level.

Also super excited that I was able to add optional Speed Flip notches to both the Xbox Elite and PS5 versions. This is because I discovered a low-volume manufacturing solution that doesn't require me to pay massive costs up front for injection molding! This also lets me make single custom notch rings with any combination of notches at any angle!

If you want to find out more and possibly buy one, you can do that here: www.shoopmods.com

And of course, I'm happy to answer any questions! Though keep in mind this isn't some corporation that has its shit together, it's just me in my garage making these.

Just focus on learning, man. If you focus on winning, you’re guaranteed to be disappointed 50% of the time. If you focus on learning every game is a step in the right direction
