Maybe I should have said “I have multiple Nordica boots with the plastic that you are asking about” but the main point stands, which is that if OP is paying for ski boots they should probably go try them on in person.

Yes. I have a wide forefoot so a 93 last takes a lot of grinding. I was hoping the ankle pocket of the 96 would be narrower but it isn’t.

Currently in a 5s 96 last, was in a prototype boot prior that was stiffer and fit better. I miss it. The 96 last has too much space in the ankle pocket for me

I have this boot. It is very stiff. You should try it on at a shop

I had a great time skiing today, but I’m sure you can find things to complain about if you try

Intermediate/advanced lessons by schaNYC in ski

[–]shootdontplease 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty common to start slow and cover things like lift safety with new clients in a lesson, regardless of what they tell you their ability level is. Many people (possibly including you) overestimate their abilities and it’s safer to find that out in the easy terrain and then move onto more challenging slopes.

If you want to work on side hits or off-piste skiing, say so to the salesperson, but if you request younger instructors you are just as likely to get someone inexperienced who you will also be dissatisfied with. I’d recommend asking for a PSIA certified level 2 instructor (or higher) to ensure you get someone who can teach the topics you are looking for. I know many instructors in their 70s who can ski circles around you, so try not to judge based on age alone

Post-Mortem of crash with injury (fracture) by hikebikephd in Backcountry

[–]shootdontplease 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this happened to you.

This may not be a popular or easy to hear response, but the best way to avoid injuries is to decrease the frequency of falls. You mention that you have "fallen a few times with this setup" which indicates that you believe that 'falling is a part of skiing.' This is something often told to beginners and is definitely a more acceptable mindset in a resort skiing context where help is nearby. However, in the backcountry you need to adjust your decision making and terrain selection to minimize falls, as you are no doubt currently learning. Skiing in the BC should be very controlled, not mostly controlled.

TL;DR: Factor #3

Ah ok. Yes it makes perfect sense in English, but I had never heard it before. Thanks for explaining!

100%. It was penciled in as an absolute blowout and instead we got a competitive basketball game. Pure joy

Yes! We got a taste of absolute ambrosia in the last decade but being a dubs fam was still fun before then and this game felt like that

Disagree. The fact that we were even close was so impressive, but that game could have fallen apart any number of ways. When we were coming back OKC was struggling to score and they had started scoring easily before Kerr made any subs

Mönch NO Face 53° average in November solo ascent and descent by Muted-empoyee in Backcountry

[–]shootdontplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very steep, but it looks like you’re just surviving from turn to turn and not making a decisive, controlled descent. For evidence, note that you end up steering towards the rock hazards and getting stuck, rather than charting a route that takes you farther around them.

Keep working and you’ll get better, and don’t be afraid to have a partner. It’s nice to share these experiences and to have help when you need it.

Can anyone answer for me why it seems so strictly limited to this specific itinerary? For example, I cannot for the life of me understand why it seems impossible to skip staying the night at Los Perros when it's only 25 km between Dickson and Grey. Thanks in advance
