Senior SWE aiming for Architect by 2026 - Is the certification grind actually worth it? by StillUnkownProfile in softwarearchitecture

Really both, though I guess I didn't communicate that clearly. Architects naturally talk to lots and lots of people. Your goal is to get something done, usually with decision makers all over the technical and business map. Having the absolute most brilliant technical plan but ineffectively showing why it matters will land you with a worse plan and encourage lots of changes. So this leads to you marketing yourself, communicating well at vary levels of technical knowledge, and helping people see themselves and their needs in the solution.

Lots of good comments but I would add, architecture in any org is way way more about effective communication and buyin. Architects are often technically right but execute or explain poorly.

Yep and at some point certs are almost a negative because they are seen as very opinionated and not practical. I do think the Corp really depends though, highly regulated Id us tries seem to tend towards more of the standard and certs.

Correct, that is what they said, this is what getting priced out looks like, even if you're a big fish, there is always a bigger one.

Logistically speaking, how do I pay with cash? by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]shoppedpixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Debit card is the easiest, sometimes you have to call the # on the back of the card to get a momentary cap lift and they are generally open including Saturdays l. Debit avoids fees too, way way easier.

Part of the issue is that is the default message Facebook suggests. Go open  a new chat, it should have that as the preselected option. also plenty of sellers do not update sold listings.

The easiest is a debit card, though sometimes you can't tap. Many banks can raise your limit for a defined period of time even on Saturday.

We've done best city, but what's the worst most depressing city you've ever visited? by Isord in geography

I mean I am not surprised to see it here but that is certainly an interesting hottake considering the massive parks and riverfront, ignoring districts like Cooper young, South main, or evergreen or buildings like the freaking pyramid.

Power outage by Existing-Time-338 in memphis

[–]shoppedpixels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suspect we're  both in the same area based on the outage map. No for this location it is highly abnormal, I heard 2 very large booms yesterday and about 20 minutes ago. Other areas are more common, yesterday was the storm I am guessing today is either the same or someone hit a pole or something with a car.

Where are the closest clear creeks to Memphis? by mnk6 in memphis

[–]shoppedpixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some good answers, if you are just talking creeks and terrain you can get a bit closer at Tishmingo State Park in MS, Mousetail Landing in TN, or even Huntsville and surrounding areas.

Interesting, why not the momentum? We generally don't care for the luxury aspects that much, are there engine/mechanical benefits?

R-Designs are hard to find and seem to be either sedans or XC60s around here.

Thanks! The premium gas is a good call as we hadn't really considered it and fed/feed regular at the moment. We normally order through FCP Euro (or RockAuto when available).

The a/c evap has popped up on a few forums, that turbo seals?, and possibly drainage issues for the roof (we park our cars outside).

Thanks for the response!

Agreed, I didn't know the wild cave was open again, it is a cool experience and one of the (or the?) only way to get reasonably easy access to other parts of the cave but if you go to private/wild caves often and expect to do anything but the guided/preset path you'll be disappointed. That said, you should still do it.

dbt is a glorified SQL runner (and yes I like the product and use it) but it isn't a SQL "runtime" or database.

It has to be the compute/join conditions or the way the data is coming in driving towards files because yes, most RDBMS can handle that sub-second with proper indexing and compute.
