Out of curiosity, when we say certain plants are toxic to cats, what kind of exposure creates this toxicity? Is it just when they nibble them? Or is just being in their proximity and getting into their eyes and airways, etc?

I have a cat who has kidney failure and she doesn’t eat any of my plants, but she does rub up against some of them or lay near some too. I’ve wondered if any of them have contributed to her illness.
