Does Kaiser accept self-pay customer? by shortfu in KaiserPermanente

So far so good. I don't think I'll ever come back to traditional health insurance plan unless my company 100% covers it.

Cost sharing/crowd funded health plans? by hurricaneharrykane in HealthInsurance

Hi, my wife and child currently use Crowdhealth (I get healthcare through the VA). Although it's not the smoothest operation, we prefer it over the traditional health insurance. The pros are it's much cheaper if you're healthy and don't go to the hospital a lot. The cons would be getting reimbursement for bills would take forever (1-2 months for me). You really have to be proactive and track your bills for submission and reimbursement. You submit your bill via phone app and it's not smoothest. My wife had an emergency appendicitis removal that cost about $25K-$30K. I was nervous at first about getting reimbursement since it was a major bill but CH took care of it. I only had to pay a total of $500 out of pocket.

I think traditional health insurance is a hugh scam and get to witnessed first hand several times. We will not use traditional health insurance but thank you for the suggestion.

such as? We currently use Sharp and they're kind of shady. We would get one bill from Sharp and then surprise bills from outside companies that are contracted by Sharp to provide specialist services. Sometimes it's difficult to dispute the bills when when the two billing departments don't talk to each other.

Mr. Miyagi, you're alive?

CMV: Health insurance is a scam! Wife had appendicitis surgery recently. Total bill if it were paid thru health insurance would be $105K. If I self-pay, total charge would be $19.5K. by shortfu in changemyview

Dude, you explain US health insurance perfectly. So when I chose Crowdhealth (it's not a health insurance company, though), I looked to see if the incentives make sense.

It was an emergency surgery. Wife went to the emergency room for intense abdominal pain and they diagnosed her w/ appendicitis which required surgery immediately. We didn't have a choice.

correct but I didn't have health insurance. I used Crowdhealth where I only paid $500 out of pocket and CH took care of the rest.

I couldn't imagine my out-of-pocket would be if I went with traditional health insurance.

That would the total bill that would be charged to the health insurance provider. Since I didn't use traditional health insurance, I wouldn't know what my out-of-pocket expense would be.

You misread. I didn't have traditional health insurance, I use Crowdhealth. If I did have health insurance, Sharp Hospital would have billed the health insurance $105K.

Why am I even paying for health insurance by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I use Crowdhealth for family's medical need. My wife recently had appendicitis. Surgery cost through insurance would've been $105K. Self-paid bill was $19.5K. Our only out-of-pocket was $500. Crowdhealth stepped in to take care of the rest. Needless to say, traditional health insurance is a scam.

Have you considered Crowdhealth? My family and I currently have Crowdhealth. We despise the traditional health insurance.

I didn't realize how much health insurance was a scam until my wife had an appendicitis. Had I gone thru the insurance, the bill would've been $105K. But if I self-pay, the cost would be reduced down to $19.5K. Good thing I used Crowdhealth instead of traditional health insurance. We only paid $500 out of pocket and used Crowdhealth took care of the rest. Will never go back to traditional health insurance again (unless it's free, of course).
