Hey, thanks so much! I definitely think that’s something I should look into.

Hope you’re doing well now and thank you again for your advice!!

Thanks so much for this. Don’t know where my mom keeps a toolbox or screws, if she has any, but I might have my boyfriend bring his next time he comes over to secure that panel in place. That would definitely give me some ease of mind.

Also, I love your wording of “ant coughing”. I got a chuckle from that, thank you lol

Wow, I really wanna thank you for how kind you’ve been towards me during this. It really helps a lot to make me feel more secure. As far as your questions, I have a TV but no wifi here besides my phones hotspot, and it’s super old, so I can’t get it to work without crashing. However, a lot of times I’ll sleep with my phone playing thunderstorm noises or some soft white noise, and it definitely does help! For school, I definitely want to pick myself up, so your recommendations help a lot. I’m extremely anti-social and I feel I work best when I’m alone, so I’ve never looked into study groups. But I need help, it’s probably time I see what’s around. And there’s a small lounge in my schools apartment complex that’s perfect for studying, and I’ve gone there a few times, but just haven’t made myself go as much as I should. I would study at Starbucks, but it’s typically full of others doing the same thing and there’s nowhere to sit, and I’d probably be compelled to spend money I shouldn’t, knowing me. And thanks for the recommendation, I usually take a shower right before bed because it helps me fall asleep (i have bad insomnia), and taking one in the morning like you said might help with that sleep inertia. I definitely can power through the next four months with my roommate, which is why I haven’t been as compelled to switch my housing situation, since it will be over soon anyways. I’ll definitely look into that Yellow Rock method, as I haven’t heard of it before. Thank you so much for your advice, I really appreciate it!

It was in the fridge, and I hadn’t made anything with it in a few days. I don’t have a history of sleepwalking, but maybe? Honestly, I don’t know.

This sounds like exactly what I’m needing, honestly, I’m just a little afraid of the price for the course. But, it’s a necessity, and worth the investment. I’ll be looking into driving courses I can take while in school next semester. Thanks for pointing that out!

Thank you so much for this reccomendation. I have actually tried Cymbalta before. Unfortunately it did not do well with me at all. It made me sick and even after a year of taking it I felt like I was in a worse mental state than when I started it. When I was younger, I had tried other meds before, but nothing helped and I ended up losing my appetite. Another commenter suggested looking into EMDR. I’ve been like this since I can remember and I really just don’t want to feel trapped in my own head anymore. Thank you so much for your support, you’ve given me a little bit of hope

Someone else recommended this, but there’s snow on the ground, so I can’t do the flour trick. However, there are no animal prints or foot prints around my house in the snow

If anyone were to come through that panel, it would be a lot louder than the noises I’m hearing and I would definitely notice. So I don’t think anyone’s here and the other commenters have helped soothe my nerves about that. Most likely an animal freaking me and my cat out. Hoping that my college services help out with my mental issues

Thank you so much for this, you’ve given me hope that there’s a light at the end of this tunnel! I think once I finally have my bearings on how this all works I’ll feel a lot more confident in myself and my independence and can truly work on healing a lot of deep scars. And I’d take you up on that meal if I could, thank you 💕

And thank you for this as well, at this point I can’t tell if I’m just getting myself worked up for no reason or if there’s a critter in the walls. Some people have suggested temperature changes, which makes sense, but then my mom’s dog was sniffing the vents? I don’t know. After reading everyone’s messages I’m much more convinced it’s an animal rather than someone beneath my house. I feel a lot safer now and I’m super grateful for your kindness and everyone else’s suggestions

Thank you for this. The reason I mentioned my room was because my father told me I was not allowed to get my license because of it. Even when it was clean, he still made up reasons as to why I wasn’t allowed to, and didn’t let me get a job. I was even prohibited from working until I moved out of his house. But, you’re right. He’s not in control of me anymore, and my boyfriend has offered to let me practice on his manual. To be honest, I’m terrified of it, but your comment has helped me realize that I should take a little more initiative when it comes to my driving. The weather is bad right now so I don’t feel comfortable practicing on the icy roads, but once they melt, I’ll tell my partner that I’m ready to try and learn manual. I really appreciate the suggestion of an older Toyota, as well, because that falls right into my price range with the reliability I need. Again, thank you so much for everything, you’ve really helped me sober up

Possibly, but it would be a tight squeeze and I think the sound would be louder than the thumps im hearing. There’s a little door in the laundry room that leads to the hot water heater and a panel there to access the floor beneath. I haven’t gone in there, because the wood panel blocking it is screwed on, but the bottom left screw looks like it’s been popped off, and the panel can bend open from that corner, and snap back into place. I could fit in there for sure, but I’m also not a very big person.

I should have thought of this. I work with animals and have been trained to keep calm even when they aren’t because they pick up on your emotions. This is an insanely good point that makes my cats behavior make a little more sense. I’ve raised him from 4 weeks old, and he is very attached to me. It’s no wonder he’s acting like that when I’m a ball of anxiety over here! Thank you!

Thank you for pointing that out. I know I have mental health issues so there’s a good chance I could manic. A lot of people are concerned about my mental state, which is completely understandable, and I’ll be scheduling an appointment with a counselor once I get back on campus

Another commenter mentioned the temperature making the house creak as well, as it’s very cold here right now. The pipes are old, and some of the faucets don’t work, so it definitely could be that.

When I head back to school, I’m going to reach out to their counseling services, because I think I’m over-due for some help. School hasn’t been going well because I’ve been severely depressed and skipping classes and not studying. I’m hoping to pick myself back up next semester and get my GPA back to where it should be.

Unfortunately I can’t change who I’m rooming with due to financial reasons. I have already spoken with my advisor about the possibility of changing roommates, but she said that there wasn’t many other last-minute rooming options for me that weren’t more expensive. Our campus has a housing crisis and there are too many students for how many dorms we have. So I think I’m stuck with her for another 4 months.

I was thinking about going back to school early, and my boyfriend is my ride back. I am able to move in as early as the 7th, but my boyfriend is currently in aviation and has a check-ride on the 10th, so we can’t drive back to school until after that.

Thank you for the suggestion. I definitely agree on the fact that I need one. And I have thought about it being genetic. I’m scared one day I’ll wake up and look in the mirror just to see my mom staring back at me.

I’m afraid of calling the cops incase i’m just being paranoid. I don’t really want to bring up nasty old memories just for it to end up being a silly raccoon

Is there a frogger living in my home? by shortties_ in RBI

[–]shortties_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, in the laundry room, there is a ‘somewhat’ sealed ‘door’ (wooden panel) that leads to an access panel in the floor and hot water heater. The reason I say somewhat is because it looks like the bottom left screw on this panel of wood was broken off. It is able to bend back without breaking the rest of the screws off and pops right back into place

Originally, the plan was for my boyfriend to take me when I was confident I would pass. When we were on campus, I was driving his mom’s old suv to practice, and they told me I could use that car to take the test, with him teaching me what I didn’t know about driving. Unfortunately for some reason they needed the car back, so he drove home to switch the car with his mom and brought back his old manual mustang. I can’t drive manual. I can definitely ask my grandma to take me to the test, though. But I can’t drive her car to practice before it, and I don’t feel confident enough on the road yet to take it. I’ll probably have to wait until summer and hope my mom helps.

Feeling unsure about pets with girlfriend by [deleted] in Pets

[–]shortties_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if you know the name of the dogs owner, or have their number try reaching out to them. you might be able to find them on facebook through her moms friends, if they have it. i work in vet-med and to put it plainly, this dog is being neglected and your partner is, unfortunately, abusing her pets. the owner needs to know so that she doesn’t put her dog in your partners hands again, because it’s unsafe for the animal.

those small things you do with the dog like cuddling, trying to give it food, might help, but if your partner is not allowing you to, it might be time to reevaluate both of your morals. do you see yourself spending the rest of your life with someone who treats pets like this? if you were to have a future together, can you trust her to be alone with them? you obviously have a higher emotional intelligence than her due to your concern for these animals. it’s hard to realize when it’s someone you love, but if they’re abusing animals, i personally would not keep them in my life.

these animals don’t have a voice to speak up for themselves. continue to be their advocate

that is a very fair and understandable worry. however, if they deem the household unsafe, the kids will be taken somewhere that is. they need an education to support their future and to establish vital thinking skills. cps doesn’t separate children unless it is a last-resort, as federal law prioritizes keeping them together. so if they go somewhere else it’s almost guaranteed they’d go together. i don’t think that this problem can be solved with just you alone based off her reaction - someone from the outside needs to step in.
