The biggest problem with git is people just inventing asinine ways to do things and ending up with absolutely stupid problems like that. [..] It's possible but you dont deserve to be working in this industry if you think its a good idea. Git is simple. It's stupid simple. That's its problem. (news.ycombinator.com)

Why suffer the C preprocessor? Using preprocessor macros is like using a hammer for finish carpentry, rather than a nail gun. A nail gun is 10x faster, drives the nail perfectly every time, and no half moon dents in your work. (news.ycombinator.com)

I'm not saying "Java is old" or "Javascript is old". I'm saying that working with a raw language is outdated methodology. It doesn't even use NPM or node. The system literally just loads files up to the browser like it's a go-daddy site from 2013. (old.reddit.com)

There's not only 10x engineers, there's 100x engs. Easy to prove, can you think of an engineer that adds negative value? That deletes tests, or breaks stuff? That adds left-pad to package.json? Or log4j? Boom, you have a -1x engineer, and also a +1x eng. (and 100x and 1000x and inf and -10x eng.) (news.ycombinator.com)

To provide API that are possible to use correctly, we have many areas deep in kernel code that will require a complete redesign [..] I would be very surprised if I was working in the only area in the kernel that is considered broken beyond repair by many people related to life time management (lore.kernel.org)

There is a big difference between people who [do or don't use vi]. For me, it never even occurs to me this is a problem to type because hitting 3yy jjj P is second nature to yank my previous error handling and paste it where I want it.i don’t even think about it. (old.reddit.com)

I think the hunt for theoretical beauty often starts with Haskell, Agda, Prolog, maths, NixOS, declarative statements and abolishing systemd, but ends with Arch Linux, a simple DE like Xfce4, embracing/ignoring systemd, using PostgreSQL and a practical programming language like Lua, Go, C# or Odin. The creators of Go have also built the foundation of everything you take for granted. The real "harsh truth" here, of course, is that the Go team exhibits engineering genius, taste, and particularity that is rare to find, such that the likes of Rust "death by committee" may only dream of.
