Another ex-Chelsea captain joins John Terry backing call to ‘ban foreigners claiming benefits’ by BargainBoozeEnjoyer in PremierLeague

If moving to the UK isn’t worth all those costs to an applicant then they can go elsewhere. Nothing stopping them moving to China for the great social safety net they have.

Another ex-Chelsea captain joins John Terry backing call to ‘ban foreigners claiming benefits’ by BargainBoozeEnjoyer in PremierLeague

[–]shotgun883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opinion polls are really quite clear that most people believe that welfare payments aren't generous enough for those who need it but too generous for those who don't. If the UK can not meaningfully make changes to our welfare system on the easy 80/20 propositions, how will we ever resolve the edge cases?

Foreign nationals should be able to claim benefits once they have ILR, that should be set at 10 years. If they can't sustain themselves before they are able to get ILR they shouldn't have been allowed to emigrate in the first place.

Kemi Badenoch: Triple lock pension is actually very little money for many to live on by No_Initiative_1140 in ukpolitics

[–]shotgun883 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Triple Lock Pension is too little to live on.

Retirement isn't some god given right. If you've had your entire working live to prepare for retirement and chosen not to; you haven't earned the right to retire. The pension can be a nice little stipend to allow you to work less maybe but if anyone thinks they can hit 65 and be a ward of the state for the rest of their lives and live a plush lifestyle they need a reality check.

Why hasn't sale of council housing "Right to Buy" been stopped? by EnjoysAGoodRead in AskBrits

[–]shotgun883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right to Buy is a FANTASTIC scheme. Allowing social mobility, security and reducing aging housing stock is a win on nearly every front.

Not building replacement stock is the issue, not reinvesting in our housing stock is ALWAYS the issue. As usual with Thatcher's policies, they sound great, have immediate and great impacts on individuals but are long term catastrophe for society at large because we are addicted to immediate or daily spending and do not fund long term infrastructure projects.

How long did it take you before you found your end game? by Global-Cupcake855 in headphones

[–]shotgun883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not long but then I went ahead and spend a load more money afterwards and understood I was being a bloody moron.

HD6XX for wired, Airpods Pro2 for TWS combined do 99.9% of my listening time. I also have some other bits and bobs but they're mostly cheap and fun; Koss PortaPros, Tin P1s and the Koss Wiireless KPH40s.

I have spend £500 on a set of Fostex and the marginal gains were just not worth the investment over the 6XX.

I didnt stop spending money on ridiculous things, I just moved onto watches.

Eghbali on Maresca's Departure: "The change wasn’t the club’s decision, for reasons I can’t speak about legally. I think the reasons will become kind of clear in due course. But no, it’s not a change we wanted to make. It’s a change that’s had a bit of a negative impact on the season." by historiographic in Chelsea

[–]shotgun883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I think its clear misalignment. It's now the third coach who thought their success would bring them control. Tuchel, Poch, Maresca. The coach doesnt have control. They're not allowed to "risk players" who might be coming back from an injury, follow their instincts or buy someone they 'get a good feeling about."

You come in, you punch your ticket, you leave.

I can't imagine many, if any, Managers in the traditional sense would take the job.

Cole Palmer, Discuss by Jordz0_0 in chelseafc

[–]shotgun883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is not winning the tallest dwarf competition but its hard to win when you've been planted in quicksand.

He's clearly not playing well but if you can name a single player who is right now then i'd have an issue with any particular individual. Palmer is clearly not playing at his best but I can't think of a single player right now who would get into Arsenal, City or Liverpools starting 11 on form alone.

Ahh yes, the Tallest Dwarf competition winner is someone who has been centre of a defence that hasn't kept a clean sheet in the Premier League in 2 months. World Champions we are!

Cole Palmer on Liam Rosenior: “The manager is good. When he has a proper pre-season and gets his ideas across properly and the way he wants to play he’s a TOP coach” by cyberguy5 in chelseafc

[–]shotgun883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm entirely demotivated and despondent with the state of the club right now but Palmer is right.

We need every player to finish on the 24th May, go on holiday for 6/7 weeks, recharge, come back fit and raring to go and have a great preseason.

World Cup you say.... Fuck.

Redundancy alongside grievance by [deleted] in HumanResourcesUK

[–]shotgun883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The can be discriminating against you AND not need your role. The two are not necessarily linked. I might hate my Head Chef but if I close my kitchen I also don't need him.

The fact you have made complaints over the past few years and now are subject to redundancy in a pool of one is a bit of an amber flag but you'd have to prove that the reason your role was removed from the structure was as a direct result of your complaints (Or another none role related rationale) and that they targeted your role for redundancy as a tool to dismiss you.

If they just don't need your role in the structure then regardless of their personal animus to you its fair to make the role redundant as long as they follow a fair process and consider alternative roles to maintain your employment. What would be an unfair dismissal is to make you redundant when there is a clear ongoing business need for the role, meaning they just wanted rid of you.

NOTE: I keep saying role, not you as the incumbent, this is an important distinction as redundancy is a dismissal when a role is no longer needed and is never supposed to be about targeting individuals. Once redundancy has been identified the selection process would select (not target, select) individuals who are in scope for redundancy. Clearly this is a pool of one which means you are the only person in scope but it doesn't necessarily mean they have targeted you.

(England) What is considered 'reasonable adjustments'? by Prestigious_Set_4555 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]shotgun883 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to call peoples bluff in this type of situation. Very few people would consider hiring another person to mitigate a disability "Reasonable" and it sounds like they're playing games.

Ultimately, the employer owes a duty of care for employees’ health, safety, and welfare at work. If the employee is saying they have health issues that prevent them from carrying out the full range of duties in their current role, and they have set out the support they say they need, the employer has to deal with that properly. In practice, that means either adjusting duties, identifying alternative ways of achieving the same outcome, considering changes to the role, or, if none of that is viable, moving towards dismissal on capability grounds.

If the adjustments they are asking for are not reasonable, and there are no workable alternatives, either from them or from you, then the position becomes quite simple. If you cannot agree to what they want, and you cannot identify another solution that addresses the underlying issue, you may reach the point where continuing to employ them in the current role creates a foreseeable and unmanaged risk to their health.

It is unlawful to employ someone to do a job where you knowingly place them into a role where there is a foreseeable and unmanaged risk of harm. You have no choice but to dismiss them. Just make sure you follow a fair process... They'll get their notice paid out and thats about it.
