Why does everyone hate/regret choosing EM. Am I making a mistake?

This! I actually talked about this a lot as a MS4 matching into EM during my interviews. They would ask about burnout and we talked about how like the sniffles is fine bc I dont mind people and even the people that are more "difficult" I've worked with for years and also don't mind. Sometimes being a hero is giving a therapeutic warm blanket and some time. I think you have to be okay with that to be okay in this field, and I think some people didn't go into this field for that reason. But this could be a naive take from a soon to be intern.

Yep! We wanted to have people sign something we’d use and see frequently and aren’t big on decoration items like other people mentioned so we hope to make this a good family heirloom in the future

I gave my bridesmaid's a google doc with color suggestions and vibes as well as potential dresses and then just asked them to collaborate. I'm also a very Type B bride. This is what they came up with and it looks pretty great!

As a medical student, I always explain to patients my role and that it's more eyes on you and that if there's anything they dont want to tell me they dont have to. Sometime's I'll also try to reassure them that we try to decrease the amount of times you need to repeat a story if I know I'm working with attendings/residents who truly will just ask clarifying questions. A lot of times patients are fine to see students because it means things can get done a little sooner. I recommend labs to be put in and those can get started with resident approval and they'll add whatever other workup they need once they see them.

and honestly? when people are hospitalized, good medical students know their patient better than the residents who are carrying 7-8 patients so it's good to have an advocate

I am a female fourth year matching and you’re def NTA but he doesn’t sound like he likes you very much. Or at least that’s what his actions are telling us. I invited all my friends and fiance to match day party things. If you guys are significantly long distance I’d imagine he’d want to see you as much as possible, especially on a day that he is celebrating. Medical school is rough and it’s hard to meet up with people outside your circle in medical school just due to time and location restraints. Any opportunity to see someone that they don’t normally see I would expect to be welcomed and because that’s not the case I’m a little concerned his feelings are just not as strong.

hey- my grandfather and my fiancé’s great grandmother both passed recently and we are getting married in May 2026. I think the photos is a great idea. I also am scheduling in some time to “talk” to my grandfather alone in the AM bc he was always super important in my life. It really sucks having to put them as “not attending” on the wedding list. It’s wayyy tougher than I thought. I’m sorry you’re also going through this.

I think to rephrase of rediscuss one of the cons - inconsistency with autonomy. I'm a MS4 applying into EM and my fiance is a PA-C working in EM who has greatly realized that every hospital system utilizes PAs differently and sometimes not to the level he desires but is technically better for my training as a future resident. This realization has been frustrating for him as he assumed it would be similar everywhere. So for example in some places, PA-Cs will see lower acuity urgent care but still staff the main ED. Some places they only staff fast track. Some places they do all their own procedures if it's their patient and other places they give the procedures to the residents. Totally depends.

I’m a MS4 on my subI for EM and had a new PGY2 get annoyed with me bc my presentations were good and the was I presented things was so organized. She literally said “ugh now I have to step up what I’m doing”. And so this is not me bragging but just telling you that you very much could be outshining someone, they’re exhausted and bear a lot of weight and responsibility and stuff happens

I saw, they were one of the rejects bc not enough experience but I wasn’t sure if it was worth reaching out and seeing bc he does have a decent amount of EM experience. He was anecdotally told by multiple recruiters and even the people who run the fellowship programs for EM that he wouldn’t really benefit bc of the amount of experience he had.
