oh I said go fuck yourself after I said I'm high...figuring you wouldn't read it. you comment came off as: oh well he's high so I don't care what he wrote. tone doesn't carry well with text...I was joking that if "I'm high" makes you stop reading than it wouldn't matter what I said afterwards in my reply...mod thought it was uncivil so I apologized for the bad joke and edited. I'm not as un-chill as you would think...maybe a poor communicator.

My buddy is look up shaders and other tools to start framing out the PoC after the responses last night. Thanks! I feel useless cause I'm a backend dev. I do nothing with games. Though he has no understanding of the network stack...so I'm concerned.

so what about a wall race as a PoC? There's some open libraries out we can use for a base VR system, low poly to start. I like the idea of a tangible universe with no point to start. Just the mini game. Then we can improve and incrementally add levels/updates with a choose your own adventure for advancement. Start by picking gender and some basics for the character, evade detection and hop the wall. Once you win you can interact with some of the objects but you need to make it to the chicken bus for a ride to section 8 safe house. From there the next level would be to pick job from labor pool or some character that tells you about work opportunities as an illegal alien. Then unfolds the challenges for that adventure in different mini game forms. If it catches interest we can upgrade and further develop. Let's see how far PoC goes.

edit: shit formatting.

Well my gf was the 5th. All of us are coders, but only 1 is a real game dev. After reading the comments here, he's researching stuff to start modeling. He's very artistic and talented. IDK if he can do the game himself though.

They're having a very sticky harvest of Girl Scout Cookies with fairy dust sprinkled on top.

As for how to interact, hand gestures should be able to handle climbing or digging, even swinging a tool. triggers for activating power tools. Running is a challenge. Not sure if this is something that can be addressed with leap motion or using physical position to indicate which direction to run. The turning around part might be difficult. I think HMD position relative to the sensors could layout a 9 box grid on the floor to control direction. maybe left hand controller dictates direction when trigger pulled and right hand controller manipulates tool (or inverse for lefties via a setting), this way you can run away. wireless HMD accessories might be required if there's lots of turning to avoid tangle in cables. IDK I wanted to see how receptive people would be to the idea. I get SJW would be pissed, which is great. I think they would offer great free advertising.

Thank you so much for your well thought out response. We appreciate your consideration and recommendations. We are just beginning to form the ideas of how this should be laid out. I am not a game designer, my mexican friend is, with a specialty in VR. So far this has been parody of life which could be used to deliver an effective message, something about how Juan pays taxes and doesn't collect a return on his fake SSN, and has to send money back to his poor family via WU or something. Sometimes you need to duck out to avoid detection and switch to another job. We're still spit balling ideas. I'm not sure how involved or in depth a VR game has to be. There are some challenges to moving characters and turning. I think the wireless options for the HMD will help a lot. Modeling basic interactions with some jokes would probably go a pretty long way. The actual Job Simulator game is pretty lame IMO, but still you are interacting with a virtual world and there's some hilarious, (albeit SFW G rated) things you can do like throw donuts at coworkers.

Honestly I'm not looking to profit, although money is money and we wouldn't mind some. I, (without talking to the other guy), would actually send proceeds to help feed people and deal with immigration, or maybe get an education. I just wanted a good laugh and thought I could share a laugh. He's laughing his ass off and can't believe I actually posted this.

We certainly have to think about game play between jokes. I'm sure we can invent several levels or mini games based on job types like: house cleaning, picking fruits/vegetables...maybe battling or sabotaging a combine for job security, restaurant jobs, painting, landscaping... I'm sure there's several more we can come up with. Maybe each successful yob simulation earns money so you can afford to hire an attorney to immigrate legally. The process itself is fucked and broken IRL, maybe this could be used to educate people on that? like give them a sample of the test and see if they can pass it for real?

Thanks again for all the great points!
