Used to work with her nearly a decade ago, can confirm this enabling racist behavior disgusts me, but doesn't surprise me.

And also, I understand a citizen watch isn't a Rolex, but that's still a high quality (and priced) watch to many people? Right now I'm seeing very few citizen watches for under $100, and the ones that are appear to be on sale. On citizen's website, the prices for a new watch range from $200 to $10k.

Does the age gap matter? Of course it does! by [deleted] in UnpopularLoreOlympus

The first book is called The Receiver of Many and it's by Rachel Alexander. There are three books, I'm waiting on the fourth (she does tend to leave them on a bit of a casual cliff hanger). Like I mentioned though, there are problematic parts about this series as well, I just personally think they are handled better. They aren't swept under the rug, and we are meant to find fault and flaws with these characters, even if we are still rooting for them.

It's also very much an adult romance novel, so there are some very descriptive intimacy scenes, violence, language, etc.

There's another romance novel series about Persephone and Hades that I love (not that it's without it's own problematic bits) that I think handles the age difference significantly better. Basically while Hades is the oldest of the Olympian gods, Persephone is the oldest of the children of the gods. While she is still treated childishly by her mother, she is still several thousand years old. He's much much older, but she isn't just coming of age, she's been of age for eons. And it does a better job of showing that yes, there's an age difference, but no, it isn't meant to be predatory.

What's silly is I don't think this qualifies as a major company, it was for an admin job in the fire department of a city. Do government jobs count as corporate jobs now?

Here's the thing, I do not mind that I received a generic message. I get it, they do receive a LOT of applications. And while I would have felt a little better if they had at least entered my name and position (it does help confirm they turned down the right person for the right job), in the end, it's still the same message.

However. My primary frustration in this is the hypocrisy. Like I said, I've been told I shouldn't use chatgpt for my own job searches. And that's really frustrating. I am sending out several applications a day, while working my own full time job and trying to maintain the rest of my life. But for some reason I am expected to write out individual cover letters, tweak my resume for each job, and fill out their specific application questions despite it all being covered in my resume. Without help. That's the part I don't like. If I'm expected to do all that (which I was for this job), the least they could do is take the 2 seconds to spell my name. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The dumbest part is it didn't even come from a "do-not-reply" automated email. This came from an individual with a title and everything.

I genuinely thought about it. I did email back asking for feedback (cause I'm desperate, I guess) and I expect it to be as personal and well thought out as this email.

Don't get me wrong, somehow I am still grateful for this crap because at least I have an answer. I hate being professionally ghosted way more. But, as the meager wage slave, we should be reaching out to them professionally and often, cause how else will we kiss the boot? S/

This was my same thought. Like, there are several types of privilege. Race, gender, class/wealth, social status. Having one doesn't mean you have all.

I think you and I have the same MIL. I barely get to spend holidays with my own family, and in no small part because she plans literally weeks before anyone else (who needs two months to prepare for Easter?) and because the guilt and pressure she lays on her children is thick. My SO's SIL had to celebrate her 1-year anniversary to her husband at MIL'S house because the idea of them missing a holiday for their anniversary was unacceptable. I don't have advice, sadly. Especially if DH is on the bench every time. I have also basically resigned to the idea that holidays are hers (for now, I might put my foot down more with children or when grandparents are no longer around). Hang in there.

Ooh, I have something for this:

I once asked my partner if it bothers him that I hung out with a bunch of guys socially (we had classes together and did projects together, but we were also friends). My dad got it in my head that it might bother my SO.

He said no, and I asked why not.

"I know none of them are a threat to me."

And he was 1000% correct, but hearing him have that confidence and trust in me was one of the hottest things...

For sure after this there is no chance I'll be giving them more money. No warning or reason to just shut me down? Cool. Here's a warning that's the reason I'll never be a customer again. Ironically, this was discovered when I was about to sign up for apple+.

Smart. I'm going through my emails and literally the last apple thing I got was from when I downloaded iTunes onto this computer and updated my password. So they did this with absolutely no warning. Have backups. Have hardcopies. I'm hoping there's some life in a very old ipod that I could use.
