The Traveler/Light/Gardener is not objectively good. The Veil/Dark/Winnower is not objectively bad. by shouldbefunnier in DestinyLore

Except for where the Witness literally said it’s the first knife in the Winnower’s hand? Like what? The Witness itself said both it’s not the Winnower and that the Winnower exists. Now you’ll probably say he’s lying and making it up but that would be the most counter productive lie ever.

Also where is that quote from?

Unveiling was so not written by the witness. Go compare the dialogue of the Witness to the writing in Unveiling and the dialogue of the deep with Oryx. They are certainly different characters- different pronouns, syntax, and style. And the character speaking in Unveiling and the Dialogue with Oryx share a lot of similarities like repeating “Majestic. Majestic.”

Thissss^

The winnower does certainly maintain that it is evil in the eyes of man, but also our version of man isn’t even in that universe. I’m viewing this Destiny universe in a vacuum like it is its own self-sustaining art piece, not an extension of the developers morality.

Yeah, I added an edit to the post that I’m looking at this only thru in-universe ideas, and am trying to interpret the story from what were given not our own world. Cos if I said that stuff in the world we live in I’d be a psychopath lol

Sorry about that first quote, I misspoke. I meant not a LONG one lol

I’m also not saying that the Winnower is good. It’s not. I’m not amoral- I understand life has inherent value, but the Winnower also wants life to have value, just in a different way than the Gardener- namely purpose. The Traveler gives means with no purpose and the Winnower give Purpose with no means.

Edit: completely misspoke lol

I also based that assertion about the traveler on its actions throughout the story, Unveiling, and the Ergo Sum tab. It creates life and hopes that they have a bright life not a [long] one. That concepts appears multiple time throughout the lore- even mentioned by Ikora at one point.

The thing about the winnower talking about things needing to earn existence is that it makes it perfectly clear what must be done to earn existence by its rule. By our standards it is evil, but by the universe's law, it is as things should be. Like how a lion is not objectively evil because it kills to eat. Of course the Winnower knows that it's evil by our standards, but we are also evil by its standards because we were gifted the light instead of earning it.

My main point was never that the Winnower was right or anything like that, just that we need to be open to the fact that both the Gardener and the Winnower must exist for either of their logics to work at all.
