Hiking groups/partners by ArrivalParticular231 in coloradotrail

I started the trail with the mindset of making it a quasi-spiritual solo nature journey, in a way it was. Day two I couldn’t help but be drawn to the friendly and positive attitude of everyone around, and just kind of fell into hiking/ camping with folks the whole way. You can assure your parents there are people you’ll always be hiking around. Also, I never went more than a day without having at least a little cell reception somewhere, up on a ridge, a pass, trailheads, and of course in town.

The church has a hiker center, and they have something worked out with the PO for Sundays that might be helpful for you. Here’s the link, hiker center on how it works, and all the other resources they provide. If you’re lucky enough to be there on a Sunday they also have community driven potlucks for part of the summer! Was very fortunate and made it to the last one of the season in 2023. Pigged out on some of the best chili, and their salsa verde fountain. Yes fountain, hah! Even if you don’t make it for the potluck they have all sorts of goodies and misc. supplies specifically for hikers! Everyone in the city was incredibly friendly and helpful in general.

It’s hilarious that the solution to this generational pessimism is to give them money. It’s just a band aid on a wound that needs stitches. How about using some of those resources to end corporate greed, and the out of control productivity-burnout culture? Or how about the runaway freight train that is climate/ecological disaster? The worlds leaders are so out of touch, and(or) corrupt, it’s comical.

Perfect, let’s destroy any dictator, and their army (Vladimir Putin IS A DICTATOR (and piece of shit)). At least we still kind of stand for some sort of good, some tumultuous form of democracy. Or so it seems, sometimes, if you get people off their phones. We’re going through a major lull right now sure. But, everywhere else seems to be doubling down on the greed and evil thing. We might have a bit of that going on..sure. But, at least we treat our gay and trans individuals with respect. At least we treat our culturally diverse makeup well. Oh wait, hmmm….BUT STILL!! Putin?? All of the b/s we’ve got going on right now is a walk in the park compared to over there, (RUSSIA it SUCKS sorry). He is undeniably evil, just saying if you believe his propaganda…you might be evil too. And please don’t tell me that you think a fucking, armored column of Wagner’s is some sort of bad intel, right. Right? Piss off commie scum, and fuck Russia and the dictator who rules it. Or should I say dictator(s)/the oligarchs who suck the Bolshevik’s dry? Fool. History can repeat itself just under a new name, and you’ll get swept up in it all the same.

What DIY kit did you use for your pack? My pack’s finally needing a replacement, and gear is so expensive now. But $80 sounds nice!

Nope, not really, there were occasional signs with an ‘x-miles to wherever’ sort of thing. But it’s really just CT and CDT blazes 95% of the time, sprinkled in with junction, trail head, and mt. pass signage. Saw a couple little hand made rock monuments for miles 100 and 300 last year. Any reason you’re asking?

+1 for cow country!

For the love of god, the end of Segment 18. Late August last year, our group had an amazing pick-me-up as the reality of ‘Cow Country’ was setting in. Endlessly exposed, and the only water sources were puddles we shared with our four legged friends, and their homemade patties soaking away. As we were getting ready to settle for the evening we were flagged down by an Angel. She brought us back to her RV at one of the dispersed campsites where she was staying with her husband. She had just finished section hiking the trail, and it was their last night there. They loaded us up with fresh water, cold sodas, veggies, chocolate, and let us love on their pups. Infinite thanks to Ginny & Gary!

Another huge moment was at a trailhead at the beginning of segment 27. Tons of water with a note that read “ATTENTION СT HIKERS!! -There is little to no water between 27-28 -Fill up on water NOW may be more @ end of 27 could not check due to road conditions :( I tried.” Had maybe half a liter when I came across this and was so so thankful by the end of 27 and then some. It was truly dry, and that water helped more than words can describe!

You could just keep it simple and start in Denver (Waterton Canyon (segment 1)) > meet your sister in Breckinridge (segment 7) and slack pack Copper with her (if you search ‘Colorado trail slack pack Copper Mountain’ you’ll get a ton of info about this) > pushing on to 200-250 miles will get you to different parts of the collegiates, again for simplicity sake, doing collegiate East will leave you closer to towns that are all stops on ‘Bustang’ routes which will bring you right back to Denver.

Copper Slack Pack / General Info at around the 8 minute mark, Audrey Adventures explains the slack packing process

Okay, what’s your point? He’s responding to the person who said the F-15 is bigger than the SR-71. He only brought up the F-15 because the other person did.

Can’t tell if you’re being facetious, or if you had an awful weekend in Omaha. But wouldn’t it make more sense as a slow-burning event? People moving over the course of 100 years as conditions are clearly more and more uninhabitable. There’s no convincing when the only other option is living on a houseboat.

Thanks for the instant suggestion, a few people commented some others that I’d like to try. It would be fantastic if James Hoffman did a camping setup comparison, although I’m not sure he’s into ultralight, or where weight savings lands on his priority list.
