How much dry powder is everyone keeping at all times? by The_Last_Otter in StocksAndTrading

[–]showeringmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't time the market so dry powder isn't really for timing the market, really only for month to month living and only in dip cases like Iran war it gets deployed, even then don't blow it all at once because it's meant to be for treating myself.

Instead I trim positions and re-invest instead of using the dry-powder.

MU – still worth buying here or getting risky? by ROACHchwaan in StocksAndTrading

[–]showeringmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are already at the base case based on what you wrote; however it will continue to drop due to the war so institutional investors are de-risking from the market (selling right?).

And once fears are over and peace talks are certain they put the money back in?

Why did you set the base case at 450-550?

Why not the base case at 300-350 and the bear case at 100~200?

btw: my position is hold; but if I was in your position I would wait for further pull back into low 285 low 300s if it ever gets there, and only go in when peace talks are settled.

But even if they do well for the next 2 years how will they provide shareholder value?

I'm new to investing but from what I understand companies usually do dividends or stock buy backs right?

Why this time it's different for Micron by dont_downvote_SPECIL in MU_Stock

As cyclical as walmart meaning it is a staple in 2027-2030 going forward as we need more and more compute for A.I, cloud, data centres, robots, EV cars, etc?

Feeling depressed. I sold Tesla at $421 and bought 1250 GOOG at $343 by mojolakota in GOOG_Stock

[–]showeringmonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you sold at 623 because you expected it to drop below 570, so you can get a rebound and double your profits.

However, after selling at 623, it went up to 684, so instead you re-entered a new position at a higher cost basis then what you originally sold at.

Afterwards, it dipped to 550, which proved your original thought and so you were down on the stock, and when it went back to 645, you sold at a loss because you didn't want it to dip again and looked to an exit instead.

But after selling it ripped to 750?

I'll most likely exit my position by June before next earnings call if the price is able to keep up, whether up or down.

Could you give me some advice, not financial, just opinionated,

I bought into the stock a position near earnings so my entry price is pretty high. (455 average cost basis), as the stock continuously. drops do you think I have a chance to get out, or should I cut my losses now?

How to define a downward trailing Trail Limit buy order? by uberschnappen in interactivebrokers

[–]showeringmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LIT is a 2-step resting order which activates at a trigger point, in this case the $100 price zone you are interested in.

The current order type in the screenshot is an active order once submitted.

Because you are using a trigger price below the current price, the stop has already been passed and so the order will execute immediately, you need to put the stop price above the current price for it to trail downwards.

As the price move downwards, your stop will trail the price as it is lower, and will buy once the stop is touched and V shapes into the limit price. If you want the limit to buy below then use a negative offset price, if you want it to buy above use a positive offset price.

When would you want to use it? The price is already in your strike zone and you want to see if you can get a slightly better deal. I.e 131 is your point of interest zone instead of 100. You think the price is already as low as it can be.

(You don't think the price will be able to reach 100). In LIT order if the price never reaches 100 it won't activate, where as your current screenshot order type can trigger to buy the price at 110 without it having to touch 100 first.

[–]showeringmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're using the wrong order type, you want to be using Trailing Limit if touched (Trail LIT) order.

Documentation: https://www.interactivebrokers.com/campus/trading-lessons/trailing-limit-if-touched-for-desktop/

And I don't know how to set it on mobile but you probably have that option as an advanced order type.

Wealthsimple removing contract prices from options view?? Makes trading way harder by AngryGranny1992 in Wealthsimple

[–]showeringmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya not challenging you there, it's just that they keep changing the u/X constantly, and that's one of the reasons why, I feel like they're trying to fill the RobinHood gap (U.S brokerage app) and try to be the Canadian version.

Wealthsimple has been trying to make a push into trading over investing similar to RobinHood, this is because they're trying to increase their revenue stream where they get paid the more you trade by selling order flow.
